Sunset and the Moon

As I mentioned before, I am taking a perennial gardening class at a local high school twice a week in the evening.

Last week, when the class ended, I stepped out of the high school (which sits on a hill overlooking the small town of Negaunee, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) and this is what I saw!:

The sky was gorgeous with a sunset of purple, yellow, pinks, blues and oranges! In the middle of the sky was a "hole":

As the sun set further, the colors deepened:

Just on the other side of the driveway, the moon was already visable over the trees:

It was a crisp, clear, beautiful spring night with a full moon:

By the time I got home, it was dark, but the moon was bright and shining behind the clouds:

The moon was so bright, it looked like the sun shining!:

So beautiful! I love your pictures!

Fantastic! This is the kind of scenery that floats my boat - none of that repetitive green and brown stuff, but sunsets and sunrises and storms and snow scenes. Not that I have a dramatic side to me or anything ...

What wonderful pictures! Thank you. I just joined your blog as a follower, found you through "A Brit in Tennessee" who has a blog I never miss. I retired in March 2008 from my job of 30 years and keep up a pretty active retirement too! So I will enjoy your chronicles daily. Check me out if you want to at http://djanstewart.blogspot.com

Possibly the most beautiful series of photos of a sunset and moon I've ever seen...Wish I had taken them.

The description on the sky with a hole is good. It is the best to suck out all the bad happenings.

Again, beautiful photos. The one of the full moon is outstanding.

I see the sky like this and it takes my breath away. I take a lot of pictures of the sky, but I'm usually at a loss for words when I look at them. It relaxes me, but it takes my mind with it.

That was beautiful, all those colors if you just waited long enough to see them. That's the deal, most of us move on and miss out on a moment like you captured!

Beautiful pics! I love to take shots of the sunsets, sunrises and moon rises. I had one morning at a hotel in Davenport, Iowa where I photographed the fantastic sunrise on one side and the setting moon on the other, too. I still love to go back and look at those shots.

YOU ARE GETTING GOOD!!!! What kind of a camera did you say you have? any certain settings to get the moon shots? VERY impressive!!! I'm gonna have to start staying up later!

Shellmo: Yes,the colors were like fireworks, they were so bright and intense!

Brittany: Thanks so much. I love looking at some of the blogs I follow's pictures too...there are some amazing things in nature to see!

Fran: Photographs of drama are good, but sometimes the little details in the green and brown (like textures, etc.) can be pretty cool too. Life's in the details, as they say! ha

DJan: Welcome aboard and thanks so much for signing on as a Follower! I will check out your site later today! Sounds like we have a ton in common.

DVM's Wife: Thanks so much. I was so excited to see the sky when I got out of class, and the sun was sinking fast, so I had to run down the hill to the parking lot where my car was and back up the hill to capture the scenes. I have learned to take my camera with me in the car everywhere I go!

JJ: Thanks so much. I will check out your sunset picture out on your site later today too.

Far Side: Thanks so much. I saw the black nesting boxes already on your blog. Usually the old ones are the nesting dolls from Russia that are so valuable...I think those could be Chinese or Japenese...but not sure of the age or value. Regardless, they are adorable and probably collectable. I wouldn't paint them or change them in anyway. If you do, you lose the value of them.
A great find!

Wanda: What an awesome compliment! Thanks so much. I loved taking them.

Rainfield: Maybe the hole was for showering down GOOD things on all of us. (Like that sunset, for instance!) ha

Grannyann: Thanks. I was so excited when I saw the detail of the moon's features when I looked at the photo after taking it.

Rae: Thanks so much...I would love to have you join us a a new Follower, too. Did you officially go up to the right column and click on "Follow this Blog" to become a follower? That would be great! I look forward to your comments! Do you have a blog too?

Grannyann: I know of this site, a lot of my relatives have their family pictures on that site. I will see if I can find the particular shots you are thinking of.

Ratty: That sky and moon that night was truly a gift. I was so awed by it.

Joycee: You are right. We ooooO and Awwww, but then forget it the next day. That is why I like to capture so many things on camera. You get to enjoy that moment over and over!

Ramblin' Mama: You will have to scan it or load it on your blog for the rest of us to enjoy, too.

Bernie: I love sharing the photos with all of you...a ready audience who feeds my addiction to taking photos. ha

Loree: Thanks so much!

Lizzie: Thanks to you too..I am so glad people are enjoying the photos I enjoy taking so much!

Lynn: That is pretty good howling, girlfriend! (Hope you are not in heat) hahahaaaaa

Cathy: That is a real compliment, coming from you!!! I look forward to your's, New England's, Suzanne's and Shellmo's photos every day...you are all such incentive to me to keep learning more about photography and my camera! I can't wait to take the beginning photography class in June!

Cathy C: I forgot to answer your question: It is a Panasonic Lumix digital with 18X optical zoom and 10 megapixels. I use the zoom setting to manually zoom in to get the moon shots. I would love to learn more about manual settings, so I am signed up to take a one day (all day) class in June for point and shoot cameras.

Your pictures truly inspire me. I am going to get my camera out and charge the battery. Something I fail to do very often. I will now.

Balward: What a nice compliment. Yes, go get your camera. It always makes me appreciate nature so much more when I look thru the lens and then see the closeups after I capture the detail!
