Happy Halloween!!!! Your treat? : This and that from Autumn in the U.P.

Happy Halloween to everyone!!!!!

Hope you get more treats than tricks today!

My treat???:
More autumn photos for you today!!

We tried to hike outside almost every day that it wasn't raining to get autumn pictures for you.

Here is a collection of some of the ones we took just for YOU!:

These are the Power Dam falls, right near L'Anse, Michigan:

You just might smell the sweet smell of autumn that went with this place:

This was a little side falls from the side of another falls, but I loved the rocks with the fall leaves all over them:

Holy tree mushrooms!:

I loved this rusty orange fungus growing all over the rocks:

Another shot of the Power Dam falls.
Some people like the "frozen action" falls effect....
And others like the "dreamy falls" effect.

I like them both.

Quartz Falls:

Don't you just LOVE waterfall shelves full of autumn leaves???:

Don't forget that TODAY is your LAST day to enter the October

Get your photo into me no later than midnight tonight!!

Eagle Rock Lighthouse

This fall, we were able to take a trip up to Eagle Harbor, Michigan
where there is marvelous
Lake Superior scenary along with a pretty sweet lighthouse.

You can park your car and walk right next to the lighthouse:

Do you see the "E.H." carved into the glass on the top?
(For Eagle Harbor)

Right out from the lighthouse were these little rock islands....I loved that single tree growing out of one of the rock islands.  I wondered how many bad icy storms and blizzards it has wintered through the years....

And then there was this gnarly tree on another spot.
It reminded me of a dwarfed Bonsai tree!:

I loved that tree!:

If you make it to the U.P., make sure you put the little quaint community of Eagle Harbor
on your checklist!
HERE is another link to some other fine pictures of that area.

Hurry up folks!!

You only have TWO DAYS  left to send me your FREE PHOTO CONTEST picture of the month!

Ask not for whom the Autumn calls, it calls for YOU!

As promised,
today I am continuing my series on
the U.P. autumn photos
I have taken over the last four weeks.

My favorite thing to do is to find canopied old woods roads and travel down them
looking to capture shots of the colors:

Tied by my other favorite thing to do,
and that is to find photos of waterfalls.

I like to do waterfalls anytime of  year,
but autumn makes them extra special, with colored banks
and leaves floating in the waters:

This photo was taken up at Copper Harbor.
I just loved the little bridge and cabin:

Looking out from Copper Harbor towards Lake Superior through those little islands:

Rivers full of rocks, boulders and leaves!:

One bright red leaf in the pile of dead leaves!:

Amazingly in this spot, although every thing else turned color, the green ferns were still green!:

Love creeks, rivers and babbling brooks full of autumn:

Join me again next time for more shots of the north in color!

Mouth of the Huron River on Lake Superior!

In my last post, I took you to Point Abbaye, which overlooked Lake Superior and the Huron Islands.
(Just go under this post to "older posts" and click on it to find it).

Today, I am showing you some pictures from where the mouth of the Huron River
pours into Lake Superior, and coincidentally
also looks out at the Huron Islands.

This spot of land is a pristine beach, shored with pine trees and is where the river meets the lake.

Again, when we went there, we had an unusally warm October day, close to the 80's
(which is VERY rare up here for October!)

Some driftwood next the the Huron River:

Looking out at the Lake Superior Beach from the river:

Footprints from the beach to the river:

Logs on the riverbank:

Lake Superior!:

Looking out at Lake Superior at one of the Huron Islands: (the water closest to you is the river flowing into the lake):

I love me some driftwood!:

It is especially wonderful visiting there in the fall, because there are NO bugs!!

We have gone there in the summer and there are these stable flies that bite the bee-jeezus out
of you. They HURT.

I am happy to say we didn't see so much as a mosquito there that day.

Don't forget to enter the OCTOBER 2011

The theme is:

The Epitomy of Autumn!!!

That's right...
send in ONE photo that shows us what fall means to you...
send it in no later than midnight, Oct. 31st, following THESE RULES.

You don't have to be a Blogger to enter!

Point Abbaye in the Upper Peninsula (U.P.) of Michigan

One of the pristine places on Lake Superior is close to a little town in the U.P.

It is called Point Abbaye.
We had a very unusual week of very hot October temperatures and happened to have company
with us for five days.

We immediately thought of taking them there, because we knew the autumn leaves were still up and the rocks and scenary would be delightful there.

Today, I have some pictures to share with you of our trip to this lake wonderland.

The rocks on the shore here are volcanic looking. Rugged and full of lichen and sharp design:
The shale under the water are amazing shades of greens, oranges and yellows too.

As an added bonus, you can look out and see the Huron Islands in the distance:

The islands look close enough to swim to, but believe me, they are not!:
There is supposed to be a lighthouse on one of the Huron Islands, and someday I am going to find someone with a "seaworthy" boat to take me there to take pictures. See this LINK.

To think that Mother Nature painted all these rocks on Lake Superior. They are amazing!:

We were incredibly lucky. The day we were there it was sunny, warm, colorful
and best of all? =
NO ONE else was there.
No one.
We had the solitude of the crashing waves and natural beauty all to ourselves.
It was heaven.

Come visit me, I will take you there.....
