The Second Set of Snowstorm Photos....

Since you all were so sweet and complimentary about the snowstorm photos I posted yesterday, I decided to post snowstorm photos two more times this week. Tomorrow I will post photos of all of the many, many birds that came to eat out of our feeders during the storm.

But today, here are the rest of the snowy pictures I took during the storm.

I love going down country roads when the trees are hanging with the snow:

This one is actually the gate going into our tiny township cemetery:

Another country road just a few blocks from our house:

I loved the character of this old tree. See the holes in it? I am sure it is the work of a Pileated Woodpecker! The tree reminded me of those scary apple trees in the Wizard of Oz that waved their arms at Dorothy!:

And, our BIGGEST thrill of the day?
As we rounded a curve, I saw HIM, way up in the tree!:

Yes! It is a bald eagle. I used the zoom to get even closer to him, but the snowflakes were coming down so heavy that they blocked his image and it did not come out clear enough.
But, then we saw a SECOND bald eagle flying away, too! I was lucky enough to capture him:

I told my husband that even though I hated the snowstorm, it was SO worth it to see two bald eagles during the storm! Now that I know where I saw them, I am hoping I can get there during a clear day and use my zoom to get closer, clearer shots.

Several of you wanted to know what camera I am using. I got it at Christmas, and believe me it is very easy to use. It literally has an automatic focus feature that is easy to learn and one of the best zooms I have ever seen. The camera also has settings for when I learn to use my own settings rather than relying on the automatic focus all the time. I plan on taking a class in June to learn a little more about my camera.
But here are the stats:
It is a digital Panasonic Lumix. Model # DMC-FZ28.
It has an 18X optical zoom and 10 megapixels.
I ordered it off Amazon.com on sale for around $300.00.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to start learning some really good quality photography without fear. If I can do it, anyone can!
I hope to get better as I learn more.
Go to my blogroll...there are some PHENOMENAL photographer blogs out there for you to see. Those ladies are professional at it, and put my beginning shots to shame.
But I so enjoy this new hobby of mine!
I am afraid you blogger buddies will have to suffer through my many posts of shots I will be taking as I learn!

Another set of beautiful snow photos! Laughed about your comment about the trees and their waving arms - it does look scary! And so thrilling to see the Bald Eagle - I'm always amazed. Poor guy is probably ready for winter to be over!!

Oh wow, I love your photos. Especially the country road shots!!! In fact I have your first shot as my desktop photo right now.

I have a lesser version of the Lumix and in some cases the pictures it takes are fantastic, other times I think I could draw a picture better than the photos I get!

I want to share photos on my blog! I have to play around with that...but actually I should be studying...sigh...

Love how where you are looks so much like Alaska...you must visit there sometime. LOTS of bald eagles...what a GREAT shot!

I have a mallard pair living in my bushes now; so cute!

Glad you're feeling better!

I think I'll stop typing now! :)

Insanity Kim: I would love to see some photos on your blog, too! Yes, we have been told that we look alot like parts of Alaska. I hope to go there one day on a trip. What time of year do you suggest and where do you suggest we go there?

Excellent snow photos! Hope you are melting again! Nothing better than a spring snowstorm! The photos are awesome, love the ones of the Eagles! I call them Evil Eagles..cause they disturb Loon nests and eat the babies.
A ten year record on that snow, we usually get pelted a few times in April..so far so good..supposed to be 77 here today..but like you anything is possible.
I like your new blog set up, I have been thinking of doing it also for larger photos..
My nephew has your Camera..they really like it also:)

I've been on an Alaskan cruise, you should SO go sometime! It's a beautiful state...even if we didn't go inland. lol!

I love your winter pics! We don't get snow here and I don't want to drive into the mountains so I get to enjoy it while still being lazy.

Fantastic photos! Almost makes me wish we were coming into winter....
By the way, my wife has 2 Lumix cameras and they are both brilliant - so good choice.

Ramblin' Mama: Yes, it is always beautiful in photos but you don't feel the chilly air and wind like when you have to deal with it in person. It is nice and sunny today and once again melting it away.

Linda: Thanks. I was so thrilled to see him, I yelled in the car for my husband to stop! and scared him.

Roshni: Nag him hard, you go girl!! We can then learn camera tips together!

Far Side: I know, I love the loons too. I am glad I changed my layout to better show the photos, too. Thanks!

Mary: That is my next step up but I have to learn a LOT more before I can mess with the settings, etc. I may call on you for help.

Melissa: Thanks. One good thing about my new hobby is that it gets me outside, even in bad weather. I always feel better after I go out photo hunting!

JJ: Glad you liked them. Now you will have to post some warm California shots for us all to see!

Steve: that is good to hear. I had read quite a lot of research and consumer reports before deciding on the Lumix, and it has served me well.

Lynn: Thanks so much. Majestic is a pretty neat compliment!

Patsy: Are you new to my blog? I sometimes don't know people's real names from their blog names, so I am not sure? If you are brand new, PLEASE go to my blog and click on to join as a FOLLOWER. I love having readers! My goal is to have at least 100 readers and I am SO close!! ha I rode thru your gorgeous state in February on a trip to Savannah and then Florida. I LOVED your big hills. They are mountains compared to our hilly terrain. I loved the gorges and the little towns in the valleys. It must be gorgeous now that it is all green again! I hope to back there again.

Like your new look on your blog! I go away for a few days and look what I missed! WOW!! I may change my blog!

The photos are wonderful. One can feel the snow hitting them right square in the face! A feeling I am tired of but the beauty you have shared is remarkable. You are doing great with your camera!

Cathy:Thanks so much! That is a real compliment coming from such a great photographer as you!

Yeah: I will settle for beautiful spring weather...can't even imagine summer yet. I know it is coming, but it is hard to be patient. Come start with your photography with me, I am fairly new at it too. We can exchange tips!

A New England Life: Thanks! You were my inspiration to give it a try!

I suggest you go in about 3 years to Anchorage, when we are back there and have a house (God willing!)and we can show you the town the RIGHT way! And, you have seen enough snow to drive you bonkers; come in July!

Loree said...

Really beautiful pictures. You are so lucky to get the shots of the bald eagles. My hubby says that I have a thing with birds because if they are around I always manage to capture them in the picture, believe me, it's more luck than anything else.

Joan, the pics are wonderful! You've got a great eye for photography, but hunn, ummm it's still SNOW!

I love pictures of old country roads, and the snow enhances the beauty even more. You can't get that in the city. The tree does look like one of those Wizard Of Oz trees. I could hear it's voice in my head when I saw it. And the bald eagles were great. One of my favorite birds to see.

Insanity Kim: Don't be surprised if I call you up on that offer. We would LOVE to see Alaska with a "native" to show us the way!

Loree: Thanks! Yes it is about luck!! I am in Lansing right now, and my neice has cardinals all around...I am trying to capture one of them on camera too.

Aria: I KNOW. I need to get some more spring shots, if it EVER gets to the U.P. !!

Pehpot: I just decided to play with my camera so I could learn it better. It has been fun. When I take a one day class to learn more, it will be even more fun!

JJ: Yes, your peacock picture was great. I will look into your sidebar soon. I haven't been able to read other's blogs while visiting in Lansing these past few days, but I will read "back" posts when I get back next week.

Hippo: What a NICE thing to say!!! Don't encourage me too much, you will get sick of all my attempts on my blog posts. ha

Ratty: I am glad you liked the photos. I love taking them!
