Part FIVE: Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park in Florida

Continuing with the lovely scenes and birds and animals
at the
Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park
in Florida.

I can never get over the beauty of these birds with their "flowing hair":

A Great Heron amongst the Spanish-mossed trees:

A Great Heron at the nest. Oh, how I wish I could've seen heron babies!!:

Do you know the Cormorants spread their wings like this to cool off?

They had a little underground tunnel to observe the fish as they swam underwater!:

"Who you lookin' at??":

Oh God!!
Wood Ducks!:
(Be still my heart!)

I am convinced THE FORCE decided to make the most beautiful duck one day,
so they dipped in a bunch of bright, beautiful paint cans and used every color in the rainbow--
and decided to make the Wood Duck and the Harlequin Duck!:

A whole TON of white Ibis just hanging out in the bushes!:

I may take a break tomorrow
and show you some more snow pictures, because I am sure many of you already have Spring in your
area and I don't want to forget to post the rest of the snow pictures I have from this winter.
Then, after the snow blogposts, I will get back to more Florida photos for you!

I agree with you about the wood ducks Joan, they're some of the most beautiful birds around. But I also love the shot with all the white herons "hanging out" in the mosssy trees!

You have to wonder how on earth some of those birds can manage to get air-borne. Their plumage looks more like it is intended for decoration than flight. Lovely pictures, as always.

So many fabulous birds here, and bonus fish :-) I didn't know that about cormorants...

That wood duck is gorgeous, as are all your pix.

The hubster makes wood duck houses and we have one just across the creek in the north yard. I have yet to see a wood duck, but I have a screech owl living in it. I love owls so I am not overly disappointed.

A neighbor who purchased two of the houses had a wood duck in one of his last year.

I am still hoping,

xoxo

Great capture of the heron on the nest, too bad the little ones didn't make an appearance. I'm with you on the Wood Ducks, they are works of art.

I agree about the color of the ducks. The color is so distinct and so beautiful.
I am fortnate to have Blue Heron living very close to our home. I have taken many, many pictures of themm but haven't gotten the right one yet. But you know I will keep trying!

Those wood ducks are wonderful, aren't they?

I love watching the cormorants but I've always understood their wing spreads as a means to dry them off after a dive for food.

They hang around here from time to time and sit on the dam spreading those wings for long periods of time.

I think the Wood Ducks win the best dressed prize every time.

So that's where my Heron's are have been hanging out all winter! Lucky them!

I love all the Ibis. They're so pretty. So much color and beauty in Florida. Wish I could have gone with you, Joan.
