I wonder if the bee had to take up an holding pattern around the flower whilst the butterfly was there, rather like planes being stacked around a busy airport.

That tree stump (or hunk of wood??) that the hornet/wasp is on looks like petrified wood! I envy you being able to be outside!

Happy to be a fan of butterflies.

I am going to run after them ....

As always, stunning photos!

You need to get yourself a kayak and get on the water to grab some shots from that point of view. Easy set-up by using a tripod and some bungee cords.

A little slice of summer!

I think the beauty far outweighs the 'ugly'. We have far uglier things here once it gets warm. Yes pesky roaches can be found taking a stroll along the promenade too if it's hot and humid enough.

You always have such amazing close ups Joan!! The Butterfly is gorgeous and the flowers beautiful. Is that a little black bird?? I don't like bees either but that is an amazing close up of it. As long as they stay outside where they belong then it's okay with me..

Bees, butterflies, birds and flowers....all of my favorite things. I will pass on the last one however, we spend most of the weekend trying to get rid of yellow jacket nests!

Beautiful pictures of summer beauty, Joan... Summer is not my favorite season due to the heat---but you help me to know its beuaty regardless. Love your butterflies, your flowers, the baby birdie --and yes, even the wasp...

Hugs,
Betsy

That butterfly looks like the monarchs which call CA home for much of the year. I haven't seen one for awhile as they seem to be more prominent a hundred miles south in the Monterey area.

Love the irises - purple ones with yellow roses are my favorite bouquets...I seem to hint constantly but I never get them. Guess I need to speak louder.

They are so wonderful to see. It is like overload time with the things we can take pictures of right now. Yours are so good to see.

That bee photo brings back memories of PAIN! LOl! Last year when I was picking blackberries - I got stung twice. Loved all your flower photos. Can you believe that summer is almost over?!
