But the photos below are NOT from that..as we only got a dusting yesterday.

These photos below are from Nov./Dec. 2011

Our lake shining in the winter sun:

The apples in our front yard got caught by surprise with our first snowstorm:

Things Were Happening in the Woods and on the Lake!

As late fall 2011 progressed, as usual in the U.P.
we'd have a mixture of autumn
and winter
and back to Autumn
before the real winter set in.

Here are some pictures of our first snowstorm
and of some of the things we saw
during that time of year.

The doves, wondering what happened to fall?:

I told this deer to go into hiding, and SOON. It was almost Nov. 15th
and in this neck of the woods, that means he'd be a target soon.

It got cold fast....and ice was close behind:

My poor garden frog....

My lake as it started freezing over...this is at the far west of our lake:

One of our first storms...the branches laden with snow:

Also at the far west end of our lake:

More winter photos are coming...
so stay tuned.
And if they aren't a reason to enjoy your present SPRING...and be grateful for our warmth this time
of  year, I don't know what IS.

Winter is gorgeous, but I do enjoy the re-birth of all our gardens and the warmth that Spring brings.

More Shots of Last Autumn!: waterfalls, Moose and Lord knows what Else!

Continuing today with various shots we took back in October

Shelves of water, rock and fallen leaves:

It always makes my DAY (week/month!) when we see

poses either!:

The Beautiful U.P.!

What is the U.P.?
It stands for Upper Peninsula.
Of Michigan, of course.

People from here are called YOOPERS (from U.P.-ers)

It is like no other place.
It is rural compared to other areas of Michigan.

It is unique, surrounded and filled with lots of water everywhere.
And trees.
And nature.
And wonderful, warm, friendly people.

Lots of Finnish, French, Italian and other cultures
that worked together in the mines and in the forests, raising generations of kids
who hold the U.P. in their heart forever.

I grew up as an Air Force brat, but my folks were from the Keweenaw Bay and L'Anse areas so we lived here many times during my childhood and I ended up
here in my adult life because I married a Yooper man and I can never be away from
Lake Superior very long without longing to come back.

Today I have autumn pictures of the U.P. (my homeland)
for you.

The mouth of the Huron River where it meets Lake Superior:
The Huron islands are straight ahead of you in the photo:

Point Abbaye overlooking Lake Superior:

Autumn mushrooms on logs:

Copper Harbor bay:
(I fell in love with the lone tree on the rocky island)

Another one of Point Abbaye:

There are so many waterfalls here. It is one of my favorite things to photograph!:

I have always loved the rocks along the Lake Superior shore and all of the jutting cliffs overlooking the shore:

I hope you can get out an embrace the wonders of Nature where you live.
They are waiting for you to come and visit....

October photos!

Still showing some of the U.P. of Michigan's
autumn photos for you today.

Footprints leading to the Huron River:

Golden autumn, how I loved thee!:

Colorful Lake Superior rocks under the waves!:

Point Abbaye at Lake Superior shoreline:

Taken from the top of Brockway Mountain Drive
in the Copper Harbor area of the U.P. A MUST SEE if you come up in the autumn to see the colors!:

One of the many, many waterfalls you can find in Marquette and Baraga Counties:

A view of one of the Huron Islands off Point Abbaye:

Have you ever been blessed with a perfect autumn day? The kind where there are no bugs, a slight, warm breeze and the sweet scent of the leaves?
Well, all of these pictures were taken on those kinds of days. We had a streak of about 4 days that were absolutely perfect and we hit the roads with some friends and did hiking and took all of these pictures. It couldn't have been more ideal.
Those are the kinds of days that stay in your heart forever.
I am glad I could share them with you.

Spring you Say?...Nah, I am still showing you last Autumn!

I know it is Spring...
but
my pictures today are still
from
Autumn 2011.

I am woefully behind in sharing what a fantastic fall we had in upper Michigan..
so now you get them!

(Better late than never, right?)

This little guy was so cute sitting on a stump in the woods!:

Some rocks jutting out in Lake Superior at Copper Harbor, Michigan:

This was a little bay right in Copper Harbor which I thought looked so cute with the boathouse and bridge:

Tranquility:

I have waited and waited to see an owl in the wild to photograph.
One flew in front of our car so we stopped and I caught him with my lens...he wasn't very close, but I was thrilled to see him just the same!:

In Baraga County, the Huron River pours into Lake Superior
at this pretty spot!:

I can always count on some driftwood being there too:

This is the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse in Eagle Harbor, Michigan.
It is gorgeous up in the Copper Country in the U.P. of Michigan...if you ever get a chance, come up in the fall...we have visitors all over the U.S. to see the fall colors there:

I will be posting more autumn U.P. photos over the next few blogposts
until I make my way to my winter and spring photos. (LOL)

One of these days my postings will catch up with the seasons!
