From the Forgotten Archives!...an Autumn View

In looking at my archives of photos, I realized yesterday that I had forgotten to share one set of pictures that I took back in the beginning of October.

About a mile out of the town of Marquette, Michigan in the U.P., there is a small mountain called Marquette Mountain that you can drive your car up to the top of.

We drove up one day and took some pictures of the town while the leaves were still in full color.

This view is looking out at the town of Marquette and a little west over the rolling hills:

This is the view of the city.

You can clearly see Lake Superior and the ore docks protruding out into the lake:

The beautiful woods west of the city:

The view of the city and the lake from a little further away:

Marquette is the home of Northern Michigan University, (where my husband and I graduated from).
It has a huge indoor football stadium, in fact the largest wooden dome football stadium in the U.S.A.!
I have labeled it in this photo.
You can see the historic city hall building in the photo, which I labeled for you, too:

Beautiful Lake Superior and the city!:

It is hard to believe that all that gorgeous color is gone now:

A while back, I posted pictures of beautiful Presque Isle on my blog.
The land the furthest in this photo is where I took those pictures.
The founding Fathers of the city of Marquette preserved that land for the people of the city for the future.
I am so glad they did! It has gorgeous views of Lake Superior from all three sides of the peninsula:

The view of one of the lighthouses from Mount Marquette:

This red Coast Guard Station is one of the landmarks of the city of Marquette.
It seems like all people that go down on the Lake Superior beach take photos of it from there, which is on the opposite side of the rock cropping you can see of it in this photo.
But, I liked this view of it too!:

If you ever visit our "neck of the woods", I hope you take the time to go up to the top of Marquette Mountain to see the city of Marquette.
It only takes about 5 minutes and it is well worth it!

What a lovely little town. I'd love to come check it out --- perhaps when I do my much coveted tour of the Great Lakes District!

What a gorgeous area. I'd love to be there --on top of that mountain checking out the views all around. You were there on a perfect day --to see all of the Autumn colors. WOW!!!

Thanks!
Hugs,
Betsy

It's funny that, although it's just the beginning of October, only one month ago, it looks like full-on summer light. It's amazing how quickly the human mind normalizes our experiences. At least that's what I think now, who knows what I'll think tomorrow??

Now that is some beautiful photography. Don't know how you managed to miss posting it!

Michigan, I hope I can be there one day.

It is a beautiful site, wow. I am impressed with the whole city. It is such a nice looking place. Are there ore mines near there or are they bringing it in by train?

Sandy: Yes, you need to visit Marquette when you do the great lakes tour...it is a wonderful place!

Betsy: Yes, it was a great day. A little chilly but the color was great looking out from that bluff.

DJan: We were there about 2pm when that was taken and it was a nice sunny (but chilly) day.

Sandi: We had gone out almost every day in October, either in the woods or around our lake (taking photos) so I guess these just got lost in the pile of photos I took. ha I am glad I found them and remembered to post them for you.

Rainfield: I hope you can come to Michigan some day, too...but remember there are TWO parts of Michigan when you come. Ratty lives in the lower part (that is shaped like a mitten) and I live in the Upper Peninsula, along Lake Superior. The two parts of the state are SO different from one another..both have their own beauty.

I would definitely want to visit that spot if I was in the area. I love scenery like this. I was only once ever able to stand on a mountain like this and look down at everything. It was great, and it helped inspire my love of photography.

L.D.: There are ore mines within 20 miles of Marquette, so they send much by train.

Eva:Thanks so much.

Grannyann: you are most welcome. I hadn't driven up to that mountain for years, so I wanted to go back and see the view. I was so glad that I did.

Vickie: It is a great place to visit! Tons of places to hike, bike, boat, etc. Best to come in the spring, summer or fall, unless you snowmobile and LOVE snow...if so, definitely come in the winter..there are ski hills and loads of snowmobile trails and cross country and snowshoe trails!

Brian: That red Coast Guard station is photographed probably more than the statue of liberty around here! It is picturesque from every angle!!

Ratty: Yes, panoramic views always makes one feel small and realize the enormity of nature and all its splendor, doesn't it?

Wow, what a view! You had a great day for these photos, the sky and lake are beautiful especially with all the autumn color.
If I ever make it over that way this mountain would be at the top of my list for places to visit.

Southern Lady: thanks so much, that was so nice of you to say!

Bernie: I would LOVE for you to visit..don't even THINK of staying anywhere else if you can make it here. Seriously! Oh, also...I ordered your 8X10 photo this week, so when it comes in and I check it to make sure it is clear, I will mail it to you. Just send me a separate e-mail with your address again, ok?
Thanks hon!

SquirrelQueen: Yes, the weather cooperated for that day other than it being a bit chilly. It is a great spot to look over the city.
