Parts of 2012 were for the birds.......

As everyone else, the New Year causes one to reflect on the past year
and muse on the upcoming one.

Like you, I had highlights and down parts of 2012, but I am
happy to say, the highlights outnumbered the downs.

And as far as "for the birds"?  Well, I was honored
to see some to photograph...and
want to share these autumn bird shots with you today.

It is to wish you a Happy New Year...
one that I hope "takes flight" for you
and allows you to soar to the happiest year of your life yet.

Because remember....a lot of your friends and loved ones
did not get the privilege to see 2013.

We read on line that if you take a hollow log (or in our case a hollow piece of birch bark) and put seeds inside, the birds like it...as they will get out of the wind, snow and rain and go inside the log to eat.

Sometimes, they stand on top of it and act as the "look out"...
like this blue jay:

Or just OUTSIDE of it...
as the "look out":

This little Junco had the right idea...just crawl right in there and pig out!:

A male mallard in the golden fall leaves reflections:

A woodpecker having a feast:

I hope you feast on life as you enjoy 2013...
and that you spread your wings and soar this coming year....
don't be "the lookout".............
just fly, fly, fly!!!!!!

These are some really special shots. I really like the close up shots in the trees. Mallards have been special to me because of those green heads. You framed them very well. Keep that camera clicking in the new year. Happy New Year.

Oh, Eva, these are GORGEOUS photos! I loved them! I am a bird lover from way back! What a great idea to put bird seed in that log! Many hours of enjoyment watching the birds!

Great captures... the birds will always be special for me. Sadly the influx of migratory birds seems non existent this year... what happened to winter ??

Excellent!!! Super-excellent that you managed to capture such wonderful, colorful bird photos to 'fit' the year 2012!!

If you'd consider adding your post link to my Birding Photo blog this weekend, I think it'd be a great addition to all the others who participate. It's "The Bird D'Pot" ---you will find the link on my sidebar "I'd Rather B Birdin" ---

Have a fantastic weekend.

Nice series of bird photos. Love the idea of a hollow log or similar to create some shelter. I'll be giving that a try soon.

Happy New Year, Joan, and although the wishes are a tad late, really they are not really as there is a lot left to 2013. Enjoyed the fall bird shots and the post words too.

This is my first visit to you blog, by way of "Frog & PenguInn", Bea and Grenville. I will return because too being retired I have the time, hah, a joke and subject on which I recently lamented. Love the birds, and the junco is one of the industrious types when it comes to food. Sometimes ours eat so much that I think they will no longer be able to fly.
