Here are some more Florida photographs.
They are particularly poignant now, with all the oil spilling in the gulf.
The beautiful oceans
and my beloved Pelicans are in danger.
It both saddens and disgusts me.
I hope we can solve it soon.
Here is a Pelican taking off:
Ahhh....to be on that sailboat, right now.....
He's asking--B.P oil....how could you do this to us?:
Golden delightful evening:
My friend: Howie, the Ibis:
( I forgot to tell you the story about Howie. The local fisherman trained them to eat leftover bait and meat where we stayed. Having some lunchmeat, we treated Howie off and on during our stay and he came and took it right out of our hand. Except.....one day we ran out and my husband was reading a book by the pool barefoot. Howie came up and pecked at his baby toe...thinking it was a sausage!) LOL I never saw my husband jump up sooo fast before!)
Orange clouds over the sea:
A pelican making a splash:
(I absolutely LOVE their large wings and enormous wingspan~!)
Dramatic clouds over the ocean:
Sky on fire!:
I am never at a loss of things to photograph
at the Gulf....
I only hope this oil spill will be solved soon
and that all of this beauty
is not lost....
I am sad, horrified, angry, and hopeful all at the same time
that we will be able to find a way to remedy this tragic situation as soon as humanly possible.
Great photos.
ReplyDeleteI seldom get to see our sunrises
or sunsets.
Thanks for sharing.
As usual, gorgeous sunsets. I think you can now call your hubby "sausage toes" and he can't object! :-) And looking at the pelicans makes me sad for our Gulf disaster, still continuing, with no end in sight.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
ReplyDeleteOh my, what gorgeous photos, and I too, am saddened when I think of what's coming to the beautiful beaches.
ReplyDeleteThese pictures mean even more to me now that the oil is changing the coast in Florida now. I hope all these beautiful creatures are safe. I particularly like the picture showing the wing span. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeletesome gorgeous pics...of the sunsets and the pelicans...funny story about howie...lol. the oild spill...heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteFaye: you are welcome...I love the sunsets there..I go down to the beach almost every night to see them when we are there.
ReplyDeleteDJan: that is for sure. yes, I will start calling him Sausage Toes..love it! :0}
Rainfield: Thanks!
Eva: it saddens me more than I can express.
Technobabe: I know what you mean! I am mesmerized by their wings in general....I am sure angel wings are similar....
Brian: Yes, Howie the toe nipper! I had to keep one eye open when sunbathing after that! LOL
I love how you got the Pelican taking off and landing. What beautiful sunset photos!! I can't watch the news when they are showing all the oil soaked birds and animals. It's way too sad.
ReplyDeleteThe pics are gorgeous... almost gorgeous enough to make me want to go to Florida... well, ALMOST. I never really liked Florida, but that was before I wound up in Texas, so it might seem like paradise now that I'm accustomed to bugs the size of my thumb and humidity that melts the eyeliner off your face. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos Joan. You know how I am about pelicans!!!
ReplyDeleteReally great photos, Joan...as good as National Geographic!!!
ReplyDelete♥...Wanda
Great pics, makes me sad to think of the animals that will die from oil. Today they have show person after person who have machines, etc to help get the oil and knowing Obama has not allowed them to do so makes me want to send him a can of oil.
ReplyDeleteGinnymo: thanks! Yes, I agree with you, I can barely watch the news when they show the birds, especially the pelicans soaked in oil.
ReplyDeleteAria: I love Florida BEFORE it hits the 90's with all that humidity AND if I can be beside the ocean or pool with beverages in hand.. ha
Pat: Thanks, I am WILD about pelicans...just in LOVE with them!
Wanda; WOW...that was SOME compliment. I think I LOVE you. ha
Ann: I know..the GOVERNMENT did not demand a safety valve and now they are acting like they had nothing to do with this problem.
Beautiful photos, both the birds and the scenery.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the images of the healthy, clean pelicans preparing to fly. It's a welcome sight after all the horror of the oil spill. The poor animals.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note, I'm glad you are really living it up in your retirement! Tell me: Do you sleep in too? ;)
So pretty to see the colors of the sky. I have not seen the ocean in at least 20 years... I would love to see it some day. But yes, about the oil... grrrrr... don't even get me started about that. I am devastated about what has happened to the wildlife-dolphins, sea turtles, birds, etc... it breaks my heart and I cry...
ReplyDeleteRatty: Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteLoveable: I sleep in more than I did when I worked, that's for sure...I used to have to get up at 6:00 am and now? I roll out around the crack of 8a or 9a. hahaa
Michelle: Oh, honey..you HAVE to go and see the ocean again soon...!! I know I want to go and see the gorgeous mountains like where you live soon too, I have never seen HUGE mountains...only the Appalachians and the Blue Ridge mts. of Tennessee...so we both have goals, right? ha
The heat down here in SC makes me think I am on the shore and seeing the beauty. Thanks for sharing. You are a great photographer. You have the eye.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos...thanks for sharing them. I live near the Gulf..and I feel as you do....my heart has been very heavy lately....not just for my own concerns, but for the wildlife....
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for reminding us how beautiful this area is. OH, and that picture of the wing span is GORGEOUS! Oh Mama!!!!
ReplyDeleteCarol :What a sweet thing to say. I feel like photography is a calling for me of some sort...probably like you do about designing your beautiful cards.
ReplyDeleteKirsten: I wish I lived closer to there so I could volunteer to clean up the birds or something.
Bossy: You are most welcome..I am so glad you enjoy my photos. I loved taking them.
Your pictures are stunning and I enjoyed the story about Howie. So sad about the oil disaster and the suffering it has caused. The earth is resilient and I am hopeful the gulf will be clean and healthy again someday.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Pictures!!
ReplyDeleteI can just see your husband jumping up after having the baby toe mistaken for food, I would have done the same thing, probably would have said some words I didn't know I knew :^)
I am like you this oil spill disgusts me as it should have been taken care of by now, we have too much at stake to be lost by this nonsense, hope a solution is here soon.
Your shots of the pelicans are great, Joan! It's both sad and shocking to see the ones covered in oil on the news.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous skies and fantastic birds, I love it. I am amazed at how close you were able to get to the pelican and Ibis, it would have been a great experience as long as you kept a close watch on your toes.
ReplyDeleteI remember the pristine beauty of the Gulf Coast and it is heartbreaking to realize how much damage the oil will cause. I hope it doesn't reach the coast but it is almost inevitable. I saw the aftermath of the Valdez spill and it was small in comparison but still devastating.
Whenever I see it on the news, I really feel bad. It disgusts me, poor animals. But your sunset photos are amazing as always. Oh and I've shot some flowers this weekend. I will pick one out for your june photocontest :) Haven't looked at them yet, so hopefully there are some good photos.
ReplyDeleteDiane: I sure hope the earth is resilient--we sure have abused her.
ReplyDeleteJimmy: I know! I can hardly watch the news anymore.
Mike: I know...and that doesn't even cover the tragedy from the aspect of the plants that the oil is destroying that the animals and birds depend on to eat.
SquirrelQueen: Yes, they flew in right beside the pool and causeway we stayed at, so I could get very close..there were a few times where I could have reached out and tried to pet them, but of course I didn't try (especially after the "toe incident") ha
Biana: OH good! I am so glad you are going to enter the contest..I'll be waiting to see what you submit..thanks so much!
You remind me, I need to go see the Gulf ASAP before BP ruins the landscape. Gorgeous sky pictures! And I love the birds, too.
ReplyDeleteI am praying so hard for the people and the wildlife in the Gulf. Just seems so unfair those people have to suffer more....I just want BP to fix it now.
ReplyDeleteWe have oil rigs in Canada but we have back up that kicks in should there be an accident, it is mandatory or they can't drill. This is all so horrible....:-)Hugs
Beautiful series! So happy to see photos of pelicans that don't have oil on them. I am beyond upset what has happened down there. Greg and i have signed up to volunteer for clean up, hopefully they call us down.
ReplyDeleteHaving gone to nursing school in New Orleans and with so many dear friends still in the area ( our Charity pin has a pelican on it ), I am heartbroken about the oil spill. I am also a little irate, whenever I'm in N.O. which people call "the city that care forgot" to see how little has been done since Katrina...and now this horrible tragedy has happened. It seems that it is "the city that the government forgot" - now their main livlihood, other than tourism, is desperately threatened.
ReplyDeleteI don't think tourism has recovered to its pre-Katrina numbers.
I love the sunsets ( and sunrises ) and is one of my favorite things to photograph in my travels about the world.
Stunning sunsets..the Gulf is so beautiful, I shudder to think of all the oil killing beautiful birds in their homes..it is not fair. Thanks for sharing these images that look so fresh and clean:)
ReplyDeleteI love, love , love these shots! Especially the ones with the sailboat.
ReplyDeleteBeth: thanks..I am so saddened by the gulf disaster, I can't even stand it.
ReplyDeleteBernie: we SHOULD have had the rules that Canada has about the drilling back up plans..that is the true problem. Accidents will happen, and when they do, we have to have a quick action plan.
Shelley:How wonderful that you have signed up to volunteer...I would love to hear more about it...where do you sign up and how do they notify you?
RNSane: I have been to New Orleans (before Katrina) and LOVED it. I feel bad about their tragedies too.
Far Side: thanks! I feel honored to have been able to have been there to see all the wildlife I did/do see.
James: Thanks so much! I am a sucker for sunset photos...I am usually too lazy to get up for sunrise photos. ha
