More This and That from the U.P. --Spring Photos continue (Yes, I know it isn't Spring anymore...I'm behind! I'm behind!!)

The U.P. Spring photos continue....
(I'm behind! I know spring has passed, but I wanted to share these with you anyway!)

A dreamy glimpse of the first few apple blossoms in our yard:

A lovely spring waterfall at the Pesheekee River:

First tree mushrooms spotted this spring:

A pair of Flickers!:

Flicker closeup:

Two Sandhill Cranes spotted wayyyyyy across a field:

It was the strangest thing....about two feet away from the Sandhill Cranes were these wild turkeys too!:

They were saying:
"What are all those male turkeys fussing about
with those female turkeys?
Look at them showing off their tails!":

I love seeing the first signs of wildlife
up here
in the spring....

We hadn't seen Sandhill Cranes since last fall...
it is always a thrill to see them, because they are so big.

More spring U.P. pictures are still to come....
Thanks for joining me today!!

  2. I love bird pictures. But I have to say today, my favorite is the running creek. How relaxing and reminds me of MN.

  8. First of all, rest your mind, Summer doesn't start until June 21'st... it's still Spring.

Second, I'm a little disappointed... I saw the listing wild turkey photos and had something completely different in mind! ;-)

  12. Aria: Hahahaa...I could take some photos of some whiskey for you..but you'd only be licking your computer screen and that's not good for you!

JJ: Whew! I am close--but I have more so I will still not meet the deadline for the rest of the photos.

Loree: That's for sure...even here it has been so different this year...we had 80's and 90's for a few weeks already and then it cooled down to 60's!

Faye: We had 80's and 90's for a few weeks straight and now back to the 60's...but that's the U.P. of Michigan for you....they say if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes..it will change! LOL

  16. You have some good animals there. The turkeys look nice and fat. I've only ever seen one wild turkey in my entire life. At least, I think it was wild.

  19. We are trying to figure out what kind of bird had babies in my renters hanging plant. We are pretty sure it is some kind of Finch. Has a red head. Any ideas?

  20. What fun to see the beautiful birds. We do have some lovely bird sanctuaries a couple of hours away. I have to head down with my trusty camera one of these days! I'm getting a bit tired of seagulls, though their antics are amusing.

Bernie: I love to see those males strutting for the females and showing off their beautiful tail feathers!

Ratty: When we drive downstate, we see wild turkeys along the highway all the time..in the fields or along the side of the highway.

Bossy: you are most welcome..I loved seeing them. Wish I could have gotten them closer, but they were wayyyyy across a field.

Shelley: eeee-ewww on the spiders, funny one!

Ann: Purple finches have reddish purple on their heads, maybe its them? They are really cute.

RNSane: Bird sanctuaries are perfect photo opps! Hope you get some photos for us to see there.

  23. I do love seeing the wildlife in your area Joan, there seems to be such a wide variety. The Sandhill cranes do look big, I have never seen them in the wild. Love the wild turkeys, we have a flock that shows up in our neighborhood sometimes.

You asked about the ducks in my photos and where I find them. The largest park in our city has an outdoor aviary, lake and several ponds. The more unusual ducks are inside the aviary. I am always sticking my camera lens through the fences there.

  24. Biana: thanks so much..I love the details in things so much, I just ordered a macro lens for my camera. ha

SquirrelQueen: Yes, the sandhill cranes are HUGE birds...I am always thrilled when I see one. Oh, I wish I could go to that outdoor aviary and see that wood duck, just once!! I'd be clicking away like crazy. hahaa
