Although we are melting in the north now (at the time you read this), a few weeks ago, when we went to meet Shelley( from Birding in Michigan and Building a Log Cabin), down in Mackinaw City, Michigan,
Lake Michigan had plenty of dramatic ice.
I wanted to share how dramatic things are on the Great Lakes, even in the late winter!
Just look at THIS!:
These are all ICE CHUNKS that the wind pushed up against the Lake Michigan shoreline!:
I loved the hint of turquoise in the ice chunks!
I had to take pictures of the boats in the winter....on the shore...just waiting for spring!:
Like US, these boats are up on dock, high and dry (in cold storage)...waiting for the ice to melt so they can get back to being in the summer waters!:
The boats are all up on the dock, asking: "Will Spring EVER get here?":

By the time you see this post, most of our snow is already melting.
But I took so many winter photos during the first few weeks of March, that I will be posting even more of them in the next few days.

ReplyDeleteYour ice dams reminded me of a friend who lived on Saginaw Bay (Lake Huron) and every spring would get his house flooded. But he never moved because he loved living there the other 11 months.

Definitely going to be going through the UP either on the way there or on the way back. Will have to try to meet up with you, getting to know the people I know through blogging would be so much fun.

ReplyDeleteThe turquoise ice reminds me of the ice my son saw when he lived in Alaska for a couple of years. He sent pictures of the ice from there. Beautiful!!!

Cathy: It has been normal, crazy U.P. weather...three weeks of abnormally warm, then three days of freezin' ass cold...now the forecast tonight says it will be in the 60's on this coming Tuesday and Wednesday!! ha My tulips are up about 4 inches so I hope we get some warmth back, for sure!
Christy: I hope you do! We have to go to Florida for the birth of a grandchild in about three weeks, so I hope you come up before or after that so we can meet...that would be wonderful!!
Cher: Same here...we had really nice weather for a few weeks and this morning it was 9F degrees! Yikes..now the weather forecast is for in the 60's next week.

What a lovely set of photos again, I loved the boats, I don't think I've seen dry storage before. I don't think we need to do that in Belgium, we never get thaty amount of ice!

That turquoise ice reminds me of the glacier near my hometown in Alaska. It's so pure and pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe top on that lighthouse reminds me of the one on the Split Rock lighthouse. It is a beauty. I remember going to Mackinaw Island years ago. It was so fun.
