You are Such a Turkey!!

When we took our trip to Kenosha to see our grandchildren, we saw a few things on the highway which of course, I had to take pictures of.

We hadn't gone 30 miles and we saw a group of wild turkeys on the highway.

I had my husband turn the car around to see if I could get pictures.

There was a large group of them along the roadway, and I was sure by the time I got there, the traffic would have scared them away.

So I slipped out of the car and they were indeed heading away from us, but I caught this:

They quickly scurried to the woods, without turning around.
Oh well, I thought...at least I got their behinds in a picture!
So we drove about 40 more miles, and low and behold, there was another grouping of them!
This time I tried to walk from further away from the car.
I finally got a close up of one:

Although it is a little less crisp, I have made it a bit bigger for you to see it:

It quickly ran into the woods.
See it on the right side of this picture?:

But its partner was still curious.

She was looking at ME, thinking: "I wonder what SHE would taste like with stuffing?":

She added: "Probably tastes like chicken!:

"I think I will go find my Julia Child's gourmet cookbook!":

"Oh, and maybe pick some flowers, for the centerpiece!?":

Don't quote me...

but I think she found the section

on turkey recipes, instead.

That explains why I didn't see them again.....

It IS only a few months from Thanksgiving, you know..............

  3. HAHHAHA!

Oh man...me love me some turkey! About this time of year I start craving/pining/lusting for it. It's my favorite meal of the year and I LOVE cooking it! Loving the wild nature shots! I am about to go take some of what I think is a lavender bush covered in bees. Wooohooo for awesome cameras!

  8. You know this is about the time we see large groups in the woods out back...all summer 2 or 3 and then early fall they seem to form groups.

  9. Brian: Yes, it has been a great weekend! The weather is gorgeous here and we have spent most of it on our pontoon and boat on the lake! Caught 3 fish today and saw some turkey vultures out on one of the islands.

DJan: thanks..they are pretty large birds, but they are dumber than bricks. ha

Insanity: I love turkey too. Is it so very wrong that I salivated when I saw them. HAHAHAAAA>..

Alan: We have lots of wild animals up here in northern Michigan because we are so rural.

    Tatyana: True enough!

Eva: Thanks! It was so fun seeing them.

JJ: Yes, they aren't the most beautiful birds, are they?

Joycee: Thanks...I love the "treasure hunt" of seeing what animals or birds we can capture.

Wanda: Yes, must be the instinct to migrate, although they hang around here in groups year round, as far as I know.

  15. When we lived by Mass City, we thought we'd never see them...but they are moving into the U.P..
I don't have a CLUE how they would survive all that snow. I know they have them around Escanaba (the banana belt!), but we even saw them around Kenton.

  18. You are lucky to have a husband that would turn the car around for you. I always scare my husband when I see something and yell out about it. Great pictures. I really like the first one where they are walking by the wildflowers.

  20. New England: Unfortunately, it will be here before we know it!

Boomer: As long as you didn't wear them WITH your sandals, or a skirt, you are still ok. ha

Bernie: thanks! But I am still SOOO behind in reading other's blogs. I have been gone in and out for 7 days in a row, visiting or having my own company. All will settle down soon though.

Ratty: We never used to have many in the U.P. but now they are becoming more prevalent.

Dreamwalker: With a little dressing on the side?

Sue: Where do you live now? We were just up at Copper Harbor today and are very familiar with Kenton! Do you live in the U.P. now???

Screen Door: Thanks, I had fun trying to catch them on camera.

Grannyann: I will be there to see your post soon. I am soooo behind in reading my fav blogs...haven't read them in 7 days due to traveling a lot and having company, but I promise I will get to all the back posts and catch up soon.

Cathy: I completely understand. I love turkey and dressing and pumpkin pie!

Catherine: Thanks. I always complain because he takes forever to turn the car around! He says ok and drives about a mile before he turns around. But I shouldn't complain, he DOES turn around. ha

    Red: Thanks! I like to throw some humor in now and then. :-}

  22. Ashley: I know, they are strange looking aren't they?

  23. I love that first picture where they are running away from you. It's still pretty because of all the wildflowers.

  24. Jientje: I thought about not publishing that one, but I noticed the flowers too, and thought it was a great shot because of them. Thanks so much for noticing!
