We hadn't gone 30 miles and we saw a group of wild turkeys on the highway.
I had my husband turn the car around to see if I could get pictures.
There was a large group of them along the roadway, and I was sure by the time I got there, the traffic would have scared them away.
So I slipped out of the car and they were indeed heading away from us, but I caught this:
They quickly scurried to the woods, without turning around.
Oh well, I thought...at least I got their behinds in a picture!
So we drove about 40 more miles, and low and behold, there was another grouping of them!
This time I tried to walk from further away from the car.
I finally got a close up of one:
Although it is a little less crisp, I have made it a bit bigger for you to see it:
It quickly ran into the woods.

But its partner was still curious.
She was looking at ME, thinking: "I wonder what SHE would taste like with stuffing?":
She added: "Probably tastes like chicken!:
"I think I will go find my Julia Child's gourmet cookbook!":
"Oh, and maybe pick some flowers, for the centerpiece!?":
Don't quote me...but I think she found the section
on turkey recipes, instead.
That explains why I didn't see them again.....
It IS only a few months from Thanksgiving, you know..............

Nice to see you having so much fun out there in the wilds, taking pictures of turkeys. They do look like they're having fun, don't they? Great shots, and I'm glad to persevered!

Oh man...me love me some turkey! About this time of year I start craving/pining/lusting for it. It's my favorite meal of the year and I LOVE cooking it! Loving the wild nature shots! I am about to go take some of what I think is a lavender bush covered in bees. Wooohooo for awesome cameras!

I'm sure those birds wouldn't pose for your camera if it was close to the Thanksgiving!

You know this is about the time we see large groups in the woods out back...all summer 2 or 3 and then early fall they seem to form groups.
Brian: Yes, it has been a great weekend! The weather is gorgeous here and we have spent most of it on our pontoon and boat on the lake! Caught 3 fish today and saw some turkey vultures out on one of the islands.
DJan: thanks..they are pretty large birds, but they are dumber than bricks. ha
Insanity: I love turkey too. Is it so very wrong that I salivated when I saw them. HAHAHAAAA>..
Alan: We have lots of wild animals up here in northern Michigan because we are so rural.

Wanda: Yes, must be the instinct to migrate, although they hang around here in groups year round, as far as I know.
You gotta love all them Turkeys! They're just so funny. We see them quite often around here and I always get a kick out of the way they act.

When we lived by Mass City, we thought we'd never see them...but they are moving into the U.P..
I don't have a CLUE how they would survive all that snow. I know they have them around Escanaba (the banana belt!), but we even saw them around Kenton.

You are lucky to have a husband that would turn the car around for you. I always scare my husband when I see something and yell out about it. Great pictures. I really like the first one where they are walking by the wildflowers.

These birds are the strangest looking creatures. They are always walking the roadways around down here.
