Before loading photos to my blog, I must now first upload them to Picasa. I'm okay with it though, because they then load to my blog much quicker and I can do multiple photos at one time.

mine come from picasa, also; not familiar with the google thing.
I got the Google plan a few months back but haven't had any problems loading photos. I use Firefox.
I hate Google, therefore I haven't tried doing anything through Google. I do hope you resolve this!
A follow up...
It just hit me that my problems started right after I upped my storage plan also.
