So, for the rest of us, let's continue with our dogsled race photos, shall we?
Today, I am still showing photos of before the race started.

There are judges to make sure all the rules of humane treatment to the dogs occur and that all the equipment is up to equal standards:

This is blurry, because it was very dark and the dogs were WILD at this point, but I wanted to show you how they YELP and jump around in excitement right before they line the dogs to get ready at the starting line! It is WONDERFUL!!!:

You have some great critter photos here. The dogs just love to run and pull the sleds. They are beautiful animals.
I like how you are giving it to us in bits and pieces, there is so much to see. And the excitement is pulling us in through the pictures. Thanks.
DJan: They are ECSTATIC! I wish I would have tried to videotape them so everyone could hear what I mean..they are yelping and barking and whining and they are straining at their leather straps as they line up, ready to go..they just are beside themselves trying to get the OK to take off!
Otin: Oh, you would love being there in person...you just have to bundle up like an Eskimo and wear really good hats and gloves and boots and you are toasty warm....and to be there and feel the excitement?=PRICELESS! BTW, thanks so much for becoming a FOLLOWER on my blog...I love Brian and you when you do the two parters...I have visited your blog several times..I will come on over and join today to yours too! I am one of your fans..you write beautifully!
L.D.: Yes, they sure DO love to run...and they are gorgeous. Almost makes me want to get a dog..but then, we couldn't travel and take off for the day like we like to do...maybe when we get older and don't go out of town as much!! ha

You would freak out in total delight at Fur Rondy in Alaska; the Iditarod should be starting soon...and the ice sculptures...and Native exhibits...you might have to book a trip for next year!!

Brian: They sell those hats all over up here...you DEFINITELY need to get one...I love them for the dead of winter here. ha Mine doesn't have a tail but I have one with fur inside. :-}
Wonderful photos! A dream of mine - I would love to go dog sledding! Witnessing it would be the next best thing! Maybe next winter!!!
P.S. Still finalizing my days up at the cabin - will be in touch very soon and hopefully coordinate a fun visit!!!!
I wish I had some shoes like that for my dog when I used to take her for walks in the snow. The poor thing used to get frozen feet, and I'd have to carry her back to the house.

I love the sled dogs..they love their work! I think that might be straw in their kennels...makes a great bedding for warmth:)
I had forgotten about the booties. In Anchorage all the Girl Scout troops would make dozens of them for the dogs, the Iditarod was a thousand miles and took lots of booties.
Love the musher hat, that brings back memories. And that's the way I remember the dogs behaving just before the race starts. You had to shout to be heard over the barking and yipping. Looking forward to more photos.
Shelley: I cleared my calendar so I wasn't going to be away from home that week for you, so as soon as you know, let me know and we will arrange to meet!! Can't wait! And Shelley, NEXT year why don't you plan on coming up and going to them up in Marquette? You would LOVE it!!! They have a reception the night before where you can meet the mushers and really talk to them and interact with the dogs!
Ratty: you can make them or get on line on the Musher's sites and order the booties for your dog! They have great people boots too!
Bernie: Nope, I agree with you...one cannot have TOO much fun!
FarSide: yes it is straw...I said hay, but I meant straw....they are cozy warm in there!
SquirrelQueen: A friend of mine (a Vet) ran the Iditarod about 10 years ago and came to our Rotary Club and showed us slides of his experience...amazing!!! He got slowed up by a whole HERD of Elk and was afraid they would attack his dogs. I admire the Mushers SO much for their tenacity!
