We have been blessed for the last few years to have about seven doves that are coming to visit us on a regular basis.
I love their sweet faces:
Often they sit in pairs on the same branches:
And they often "puff up" their feathers:
Often they face away from us, like they are enjoying looking out at the lake, just like we do:
I love it when I can see their longggggg tail feathers!:
Here's a bunch just hangin' out:
Just look at his ruffled breast feathers:
I know.
We are probably feeding them a hunkin' carload of food per day because I can't stand to see the birdfeeder empty bit much.
Because he does look kind of fat fluffy.
Here's a side profile of a lovely couple:

So calm.
We can take some lessons from them, No??
They are so pretty and so soft looking. thanks for the closeups
ReplyDeleteLovely!!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to visit your blog in so long! I'm sorry, it's been super busy, but winter is just about here, so I will have time to catch up with everyone!
But I'm going back to take some peaks of some great fall color of the UP that I am sure you have!
Your skill with the camera never ceases to amaze me!
ReplyDeleteMorning doves are some of my favorites! Their mournful song is beautiful and I love to hear it.
ReplyDeleteThese are such great close-ups. I love the texture of the feathers in the first few pictures. Really nice shots.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are super lovely. They are NOT fat, just fluffy. They certainly do seem to enjoy looking out at the lake, just like you do. They are adorable, and so lovey dovey.
ReplyDeleteDoves are so pretty. I love feeding the birds too -they have their own line on our budget!
ReplyDeletevickie
I love mourning doves. They are so cute!
ReplyDeleteGrannyann: I think they are pretty birds, too.
ReplyDeleteCindy: I have been missing you! I thought maybe you gave up blogging! So nice of you to return, glad you are back!
Eva: It is easy when I have willing subjects like these sweet doves.
Lucy and Dick: They are one of my favorite birds too. And they are so patient. Sometimes they sit in the apple trees and wait for all the other birds to come and eat and when they leave, they finally come down to eat out of the feeders.
L.D.: Thanks. I LOVE it when they fluff up their feathers like that too. I want to pet them when they do that.
DJan: Just looking at them makes me calmer. They are so sweet.
Vickie: We never used to feed them or know anything about birds. But when we moved out to the lake we started and now I am in love with birdwatching and feeding all the different kinds we see!
Lynn: Yes, they are some of my favorite birds for sure!
They are a peaceful looking bird. They look so content and look like they don't have a care in the world. How I wish I was a dove... life would be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures of such a beautiful creature.
there is just spmethin g about doves and their cooing that is so peaceful...wonderful shots.
ReplyDeleteMichele: Thanks so much. I hope you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteBrian: Yes, their coo is precious and they always bring peace to mind.
Gorgeous pics. Those birds really blend into the trees, don't they?
ReplyDeleteSo fluffy (not fat, lol) and pretty. As much as I miss summer I still love all the things we can see now that the leaves are gone. The close up in the first photo is amazing.
ReplyDeleteI love doves, you have captured them beautifully...as always... even their name brings me comfort. Again I thank you for sharing..Hugs
ReplyDeleteThe birds re so pretty and they look sooooo soft! Geat pictures as always. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Fragrant: Yes, their soft brown feathers blend right in.
ReplyDeleteSquirrel Queen: I love the layers of their feathers too.
Bernie: Nice to think of peace and joy to the world this time of year, right?
Joanna: I hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving, too!
Great pictures. They look as though they have their winter coats on.
ReplyDeleteThey sure are pretty. I've only ever seen doves in cages, they are much happier and prettier looking resting on tree branches. I love seeing all the new visitors this time of year.
ReplyDeleteYou've been getting excellent pictures of birds. because of seeing your birds, I've been watching a little closer here. I'm discovering now that I have more kinds of birds than I thought around here. Now I just have to get the right light.
ReplyDeleteLovely autumn shots. Makes me want to fluff up my own feathers and hunker down with a good book and a cup of cocoa.
ReplyDeleteAlan: That's a great way to describe them.ha
ReplyDeleteRatty: Yep, all the birds that come through here on their way south MUST come by you too. Grosbeaks, cedar waxwings, etc. Our doves and BlueJays stay here all year round..(don't ask me how they survive our winters!) Yikes!
Kerry: You are new to my blog, right? Welcome aboard! I hope you join(ed) on as a Follower. I think I have already fluffed up my feathers here. ha
I am totally singing 12 days of Christmas right now after reading this post.
ReplyDeleteUnrelated, yes.
Hey -- doves are very plentiful in TX and we could hear them cooing often. (As a nasty aside: was Dick Cheney on a dove-hunting stint when he accidentally shot someone?) Hard to think of them as potential targets, let alone food??! The year that my dad died, he had recently "remodeled" the birdhouse hanging off the side of the garage in Minnesota. Besides the "regular" tenants, a pair of doves was attempting, unsuccessfully, to put a nest on TOP of the sloping roof of the birdhouse. So Dad (urged by Mom, of course) hammered in some nails along the edge, so the doves would not have to constantly rebuild the under-construction nest. Greg got a great photo of that nest, by the way. Baby doves look fully grown, in comparison to young-ins of other birds!
ReplyDeleteCatherine: I can't imagine caging up such a beautiful free bird. I am glad they are free and plentiful here.
ReplyDeleteJessica: yep, I can hear your mom telling your dad directions on how to fix the birdhouse for the doves. ha
It was nine years ago today (Nov. 23rd on Thanksgiving day that year) that my Dad died of his stroke.
Kearsie: They are always pictured on Xmas cards, maybe that is why???
I love your crazy mind!
They are so cute! I love doves and I am glad that we don't allow hunting them here in Michigan! I have a maurauding hawk hanging out in my neighborhood right now so the doves are making themselves scarce!
ReplyDeleteJeanette: I am glad they don't hunt them here too..you know, a few years ago they were actually considering it! It would have broke my heart. Watch out for that hawk..they pick up kitties and dogs too if the dogs are small! Yikes!
ReplyDeleteWonderful...really very wonderful
ReplyDeleteDorothy: thanks so much! Welcome to my blog...I hope you sign(ed) up as a Follower....that's great! I have such joy taking pictures of animals, birds and nature.
