Critters and Crusts!: REVISED :-}

Before hunting season started, we took one last ride into the woods.

We stopped and saw some streams where the ice had already started to freeze them, and we saw a few woods' creatures just to make the day a success.

I saw this foam on the side of a rapids, and noticed that the foam had frozen into the most amazing shapes:

And we saw this creature swimming way far out in a dam.
Can you guess what it is?
Here is a hint: it's tail is stuck on a branch, and it is a playful animal:

Didn't guess yet?

I will give you one more view in a minute.

This little guy was so busy eating seed pods, he stayed on top of that log and let me take about 15 pictures of him. He was so cute!:

One more of the frozen river foam:

(Doesn't it look like frozen threads?):

Here is ONE more view of the mystery critter:I am going to be cruel and not tell you what animal it is until you make guesses in the comments section of this blogpost.

The first one to guess gets mention in a future blogpost!

Just because I feel like playing with you today!

I've gotta have SOME fun with my blog, don't I????

REVISED: obviously, it would have really helped if I hadn't put the words "OTTER PHOTOGRAPHS" in my post labels. hahaha DUH. But Lorac got the answer first...stop by her blog, it has some great photography too!

  7. Wonderful pics!!! The ones of the foam would look great blown up into a 16 x 20 and hung on your wall!

  8. The tail totally confuses me, I don't have a clue what it is. Maybe the loch ness monster. I like the little squirrel.

  9. Well, Imna say otter, because that is what it says in the labels, and because I am a smart a$$.

    Tee hee!

That foam frozen on the ice is soooo cool! :)

  10. otter!

those foam shots are amazing...if you had not told us what that was it would have been hard to guess...too cool.

  11. If you are in Malaysia, I would rather say it is a Monkey.

  12. Ok! It's an otter or a mink? I'm not sure if you have both there, but we have both here...

  13. Well your labels gave it away.......otter. LOL!
We just found a muskrat house on our property near one of our ponds. I saw it the other day and need to explore and of course take pictures. They are pretty cute!

  14. And now as I am the last one who writes a comment here, I think it's a monkey....LOL...

  15. Lorac: you were the first to guess.
But I realized that I had it labeled in my post labels, too.. duh. haaaaa
I like your blog, I just joined as a follower!

Joannie: Good thing I don't do the riddles like you do in your blog, I would give them all away. I forgot all about that when I did the photo labels. ha Did I tell you I was blonde?

Eva: Right you are, as the photo label said. ha

Vickie: I didn't realize it when I posted, but I gave away the answer in my photo labels. It was an otter.

Betsy: It was an otter...I accidently gave it away in my blogpost labels. ha

Sue: You are most welcome for the seeds and thank you right back atcha! And the post was an otter, I accidently gave it away by naming it in my blogpost labels at the end of the blogpost.

Wendy: Those patterns really were cool in person because they had an ice glace on them. Isn't it weird that they just froze in place? Just like Father Winter blew his ice breath on them and froze them instantly!

Ed: Right you are...and I blew the contest because I put "otter photograph" in my blogpost labels at the end of the blogpost. Oh boy, I need practice at this contest thing. ha

L.D.: It was an otter. I gave it away because I had "otter photograph" right on the end of my blog in the blog post labels. Sheesh, I am not very good at blog contests, now , am I? ha

Insanity: Yep, someone else said that first. Boy, I am going to need a LOT more practice at this contest thing before I implement any of your ideas, aren't I? ha I must have been half asleep when I did the post not to catch that.

Brian: Yep, I totally blew it when I put otter in the blogpost labels. Yikes, I am blonde for sure. haha

    grannyann: Nope, OTTER> ha

Rainfield: I would have loved for it to be a monkey. (By the way, do they know how to swim?)

Lucy and Dick: It was indeed an otter. We do have both here!!

Sandy: It was an otter, and I accidently gave it away at the bottom of the post by putting the words "otter photograph" at the end of my blog post. Not too smart of me, was it? ha

DVM's Wife: Yeah, well wasn't that smart of me? Yikes, maybe I did the post before I had my coffee today. ha I haven't gotten a picture of a beaver or a muskrat ye, either, but I hope to, someday!

  16. Ahh you need to do another one! Maybe I'll catch on!

  17. My first thought was beaver, then otter, then I saw where you said you labled it. Great photos. Have a good weekend.

  18. Have never seen frozen foam before, and I love the photo of the squirrel....I do enjoy seeing all of these things through your camera lens....lovely. (I read the word otter but still thought beaver, now that is how smart I am. ....LOL) :-) Hugs

  19. LOVE the patterns in nature and you capture them so well!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Vickie: I will try it again sometime and try and remember NOT to label it in my photos (even the the html) ha.

SouthernLady: Yes, I will have to pay attention to details next time I put a "mystery" photo in, won't I? ha

Bernie: When we saw it we were sure it was a beaver because it was way out in the middle of the dam. But when I downloaded the photos to the computer, we saw its tail and when I blew it up I could really tell it was an otter. I didn't post the blown up photo because it was too blurry.

    Gaston: Thanks so much!

  21. Those foam shots are just incredible.

  22. Ashley: Thanks so much. We were ready to leave the dam and we had our car parked right by where it was frozen in place. I looked at it and looked again and realized it had literally frozen in place. I loved their patterns, too.

  24. I actually never saw the "otter" post title, but I knew what your creature was immediately. It's good to finally see one though. I've been reading so much about otters and beavers, but I have only gotten a few small glimpses of either of them. The frozen foam and the little red squirrel are also wonderful pictures. The red squirrels really seem to like pine trees.

  25. Mitr: Thanks, I loved the frozen swirls too. I almost missed them when we were there.

Ratty: I would love to get a beaver next. My brother owns our old family property and said there is a beaver dam in the back that he wants to break up next spring so maybe I will go out with some kind of camouflage to cover me up and take some photos. Once they break up his house, he will have to swim out and run away. ha They won't hurt him, they just don't want him damming up the water on their property anymore.

  26. Even before seeing the label the word playful gave it away. Great photos, the squirrel is of course my favorite.

I really like the patterns made by the frozen river foam, gorgeous.

  27. SquirrelQueen: I figured you and Ratty would especially like the squirrel picture! :-}

  28. I otter be glad that I came to your blog late. I was pretty squirrelly until I figured out what it otter be.

Dude, it's Monday and I'm super tired.

  29. Kearsie: I otter be more careful when I post contest questions, eh?
