On closer exam, I saw TWO kinds of geese floating on the pond...one kind which I have never been able to capture on camera!
Look at these!!
SNOW GEESE!!:
Here is a snow goose on shore. If you look close, there is one behind him, in the bushes, too:
And right behind the snow geese???
A string of Canadian geese!!:
I loved their reflection in the pond:
The snow geese looked like swans at first, but we looked them up and they are indeed Snow Geese, but still very pretty and picturesque:
Look at their funny forehead bumps!:
Who could blame them? It is getting pretty cold up here in Northern Michigan!!
You know, we get a lot of the Canadian geese, but I haven't seen any of the Snow around here!

Pearl: Since this was in a pond on a farm, it is possible that the farmer had these as tame snow geese, I am not sure. But it was great to see some in person!
ReplyDeleteStunning pictures! I especially love the one where you've blurred the edges and your eye is pulled right to the geese. I love these pictures, and you're right: the reflection in some of the pictures defies description.
ReplyDeleteYes, well if I was a goose ....
ReplyDeleteI know they are just Geese but I always get excited when I see a gaggle gliding across a pond. Seldom do I capture them with my camera so good for you Joan!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots! Well done. I know how it is to have to peek through the grasses to photograph them!
ReplyDeleteWe miss our geese. So quiet on the lake. :-(
I have never see these snow geese in the wild. I have seen them at zoos and I thought they were a domesticated farm goose. The things we learn from our blogger friends.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots. Well captured.
ReplyDeleteI loved how the Canadians were all lined up even when swimming.
ReplyDeleteDJan: So glad you liked them. The white geese were very hard to photograph because the white was so bright in the sun, they glowed!
ReplyDeleteJientje: Would you let me photograph you then? ha
New England: Not so! I saw your gorgeous SWAN in the red pond...just fantastic!
Jenn: True enough..I have to sneak up on birds and animals all the time..but that is half the fun, right?
L.D.: I am not sure if this farmer had them as domesticated or not...they were in his pond, so I don't know for sure. But we have driven by it before, and I don't recall seeing any there before.
Alan: Thanks so much! When I first saw the white birds, I thought they were swans, but either way, I got excited! ha
Hey lady! You may just have to update your feed or redo the friend connect thingy! I've posted tons missy! :) But for some reason it's not feeding it through to everyone. LAME! As always love your pictures...where were you when I needed a wedding photographer?!?! Love ya!
ReplyDeleteAlways such great photos Joan!
ReplyDeleteMy first look I thought they were swans but you are absolutely right they are snow geese as I saw them on another blog, the bump on the head gives them away I guess...love you blog....:-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteWow- I have only ever seen the snow geese flying over. I've learned to identify their sound so I can tell that I should look for a silvery V, but they just pass over, high above me. I love the flashing of their white bodies in the light, but I've never seen one up close.
ReplyDeleteGeese are some of my favorite animals. I don't think I've ever seen snow geese before. I like the weird foreheads.
ReplyDeleteSnow geese! Wow, what an experience. Love the images you captured. :)
ReplyDeleteGrannyann: yes, that's true..maybe they are so used to flying in lines that when they land for a rest they stay in position. ha
ReplyDeleteBrittany: I better update it then. Bummer...wonder why it won't automatically show up like everyone elses? I will update it today and let you know if I still have problems.
Wanda: Thanks!
Bernie: I had to look close to realize they weren't swans in person too, but when I saw the pictures downloaded on my computer I was sure.
Sharkbytes: This is the first time I have ever seen them in person, so I was pretty excited!
Ratty: I did too...but the bumps look like they would hurt or something. ha....if they have races, the winner wins "by a nose" hahahaaaa
Ashley: Thanks so much. They all looked so pretty on the reflecting pond...it was very cloudy that day and then the sun came out...which actually gave me problems because the white geese "glowed" too much then. ha
Gorgeous shots! I especially like the snow geese!
ReplyDeleteLadyfi: Thanks! I was thrilled to see the snow geese because this was the first time I got the opportunity to photograph them!
ReplyDeleteI think the Canadian Geese were posing for you..like a chorus line..but a Goose Line LOL:)
ReplyDeleteFar Side: I think maybe they were. ha They sure didn't mind me there taking their picture!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots of the geese, the reflections are great. I learned something new, I didn't know the white ones were called snow geese. We have them here at a pond in the park but I just thought they were domestic geese. They are fun to watch but the gander has a really bad attitude.
ReplyDeleteThe Canada geese are my favorites, they look so gracefully swimming.
SquirrelQueen: Some can be domesticated, too...I don't know if this farmer had bought them for his pond or if these were wild ones that flew in. I always LOVE taking bird pictures, especially water birds and ducks, swans, etc. The opportunity for reflection is always there and the settings are always so pretty.
ReplyDeleteOk. I am a bit squirmy whilst viewing your goose pics.
ReplyDeleteMe + swimming in a lake + presence of goose poop = Lots of itching and Benedryl.
Kearsie: You wouldn't be swimming in this autumn water...or you'd have hypothermia, which would be a much bigger problem than swimmer's itch. ha
