First, we stopped at an old farm site for sale. I saw this old rope and steel cable apparatus there that was tangled up and had seed pods and spider webs on it. I loved how it looked:
Another shot of my lilies, still in bloom:
I think this is a moth on the seed pod, but maybe it is a butterfly? (Ratty? which?):
Another mystery flower growing in my garden. They had it on sale at a yard sale last year, and my husband bought them for a quarter. Anyone know what they are?:
I believe this is called an Evening Primrose. Another flower my hubby got at the same rummage sale...the really came up good this year!:
This shot is for Rainfield.....this is how far the apples have grown on my apple trees thus far!:
Look what is on the clover! Don't you just love his CURLY antenna? or wait...is it his tongue??:
This is a common weed on the side of the road...I loved the contrast of the purple against the rocks on the road!:
Very relaxing to view your flowers Joan...I feel I should know the white one...it looks so familiar but...my mind is blank at the moement.
ReplyDeleteYour garage sale mystery plant looks like Achillea "Pearl".
ReplyDeleteHope this helps!
You're sure getting good with your camera-I love the closeup of the bee on the flower.
great shots once again. love teh contrast with the first of the rope and metal. apples will be ready soon. i hope our pears and grapes will...love me some fruit.
ReplyDeleteI hope someone identifies the white flowers. The are like a smaller version of mums but not really the right family. The rock textures are really great against that flower. Great blog of pictures. My apples are bug bite free with spray but I still have some rust like thing going on with my apples. I may post photos and get a diagnosis from someone who knows this stuff. My apples are slowing down in growth but I sure have a lot of them this year.
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing those moths here too, I think they could be fritillaries or at least I've seen some on blogs that look similar.
ReplyDeleteYour apples are getting bigger, does you tree bend with the weight of them? I think maybe because my tree is young it does that.
The little white flower almost looks like Baby's Breath.
The colors in the rope-- first picture, are stunning as are all your pictures.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
Gosh, thanks for the 'good eye' ! What an interesting ramble you had in the woods! Looking forward to part 3.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos as always, you have some of the most gorgeous flowers.
ReplyDeleteThe moth is not a moth but a Skipper. The skippers have attributes of both the moth and butterfly. My books list them with the butterflies. I posted some photos of them last Sunday for Camera Critters on Through Squirrel Eyes.
My favorite photo is the first one with the old rope, that is just too cool.
BEAUTIFUL!!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are gorgeous and you do a great job with the camera...My flowers have not done well this year but this last round of rain has helped a bit.
I love these! And yes, I had missed the spider! Love the contrasts. Love the peaceful feeling that has rolled over me because I came here tonight.
ReplyDeleteWhat looks like a moth is not a moth or even a butterfly. It's a creature called a skipper. Skippers are very closely related to butterflies and moths. They look like a cross between the two. Since I've been so tardy in writing a post about the difference, I'll tell you the simple way. Butterfly's and skipper's antennae have little knobs on the ends. A moth's antennae look like feathers, with no knobs. There are other differences, but these are the easiest.
ReplyDeleteAwwww, I was WAYYYYYYYYYYYY behind on my reading here. This should not happen again, so I decided to become a follower. This way I should no longer miss your beautiful posts! You are a fun loving positive person like I am, and you are blessed to live on a beautiful place on this planet, surrounded by beauty. And you SEE the beauty in everything, that's what matters! Loved all your posts!
ReplyDeleteWanda: I know! It looks kind of like baby's breath, but it is much shorter and tiny.
ReplyDeleteSue: thanks for the heads up on the possible name of the flower. I am awful about knowing their names, but I love their beauty!
Brian: You have pears and grapes? How wonderful. Between the two of us, we could make a heck of a great fruit salad. ha
L.D.: For the past few years we have had a fungus type thing on our apple trees. It attacks one branch at a time and all the leaves die on that one branch. We have to snip the branch off that gets it, or it spreads....but we don't have rust on the apples...not sure what that is either.
Catherine: yes, our branches hang from the weight of the apples here too. Sometimes we have to support them with branches from another tree, like what you support your lines with when you hang clothes. The past few years, we have had hard wind during the apples first growing stage and we get a lot of the little green apples falling off then..nature's way of survival of the fittest apples....the survivors hang on to grow into the big ones. ha
Joanna: yes, I loved seeing that rope. Still don't know what it was used for, but I loved the colors and textures of it.
Keats: Thanks so much. I will be posting Part 3 in a few more days.
SquirrelQueen: Thanks! Ratty also told me they were Skippers. I love learning from my readers! You are all such good resources for me. I loved the rope too. I still don't know WHAT it was used for at that farm, but I loved the colors and texture it had and knew I HAD to take a photo of it.
LaGirl: Thanks so much. I never met a flower I didn't like, thus the photos. ha
Boomer: What a nice way to describe it...I love flowers and looking at photos of them always calm me too.
Ratty: Thanks for the help in identifying the difference. Got it.
Knobs=butterflies. Feathers=moths
Skippers=who knows? hahaaaaaa.
Jientje: Thanks so much for becoming a Follower...I thought you already were! I have been following your blog for a while now, too, so I don't miss any of your posts.
