There is something very exotic about Lupines...
I love their leaves, they are like mini-palm trees:
I love their cone shape and that they blossom from the bottom up:
Some look more blue, some look more purple:
Some are a bit two-toned.
They grow here in pink, white or blue.
I only have the bluish ones in my garden area:
But every year they delight me.
And summer moons?
Well, I like them too:
But THESE?????:
NOT SO MUCH!!!!
Although hairy-looking mothy type things are ok with me:
Just as long as they don't flutter by me
in the middle of the night.
(We'll have NONE of that!)
I think my garden is too small for lupines, but I appreciate seeing them. I took a picture of my grand the other day, and when it was on the computer I noticed a smudge near her eye. When I zoomed in, it was a mosquito. I didn't see a bite when I examined her face the next day, however. She tends to react to bites too, so I guess she must have brushed it off in time.

ReplyDeletebeautiful! love lupines as they remind me of the Texas bluebonnets (altho ours are much smaller than yours). the hairy moth-looking thing is actually a skipper butterfly, i think. :)

ReplyDeleteI was enjoying my browse until i got to that pesky mosquito, i wanted to slap my screen, they are here in hordes and driving me nuts, even in the house. the lupine is gorgeous and i would love to see one. i like the leaves as much as the flower. our dwarf poinciana blooms from bottom up like this. did you take the skeeter photo? if so that is really good.

ReplyDeleteWe don't have lupines, but the first time i saw it in Sweden i am smitten, just like when i first saw wisteria flowers and grape hyacinth. They really look very exotic for me. Those lupine leaves look like our cassava leaves, and when they are variegated makes very good ornamental plants. But of course your photos are always awesome, superbly awesome!

ReplyDeleteI am always learning the names of things when I come here. (Not that I will necessarily remember them later--LOL!) I especially love the last lupine pic of the two-toned one. That is a great close-up of the state pest--and an amazing shot of the moon!! You have a great camera, Lady! And a good eye. :):)

ReplyDeleteMosquitoes? Not so much! If you sprinkle cheap mouthwash on your lawn if you're sitting outside, they won't bother you. It works!
