I am behind in posting photos from the end of our Savannah trip, our Florida trip
and getting back to the U.P.
in the late winter/early spring.
So today, I am posting a mixture of these photos to catch up a bit.

For some reason, Cardinals are elusive for me to capture with my lens.
They do not come to my feeders or come to my yard often.
So, when we were visiting my cousin in Savannah, I was thrilled to see a Cardinal in her back yard.
Of course, just my luck....
she told me it was elusive for her to try and take pictures of it, too..
So..
the challenge was ON.
I must have had to take 20 photos to get a few good ones but at least I did capture one or two:

When we were hiking in Savannah, we saw some awesome driftwood
and old wood on the forest floor:
I love doing them in black and white too:
And THEN??
We came back home.
To snow!
But, there was hope!
A few geese had flown from the south back up to the north, as we saw in this pond:
I was so happy to see that we had received
the FIRST sign of spring....
the geese were back!
The geese were back!!!
oo lave the drift/old wood...all gnarled and smooth like little pieces of art themselves....like to see what i can see in them...
ReplyDeletesince your first few photos are common for me to see a lot of, my favorites are the geese, which we do not see down here. we have domestic geese but not beauties like these. you did get good captures of mr and ms cardinal, they are both beautiful. we have a family in the yard but they stay way up high where i can't get them, i can see them but the camera will not focus past the tree limbs, so you did good
ReplyDeleteTrees always look so much more dramatic in B&W (the roots and driftwood type I mean). Nice job on all of them. BTW the only way I can "capture" half the bird shots I do is from a window!! Besides, it has been too cold and windy to stand outside waiting...

Good job capturing the cardinals - all songbirds are hard to get, in my opinion - and I love the b&w of the dead tree. I can't wait to see more from Savannah, I think it is one of the prettiest cities in the country.

You got some terrific shots of the cardinals. How pretty the female's earth tomes are. I am a person who appreciates wood. That driftwood is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow. The fact that you are getting caught up impresses me (I just stay behind). It would be a treat for me to see red cardinals in real life. We have blue jays, and I like them.
ReplyDeleteYou got some very nice pictures of those Cardinals!! I just know you were thrilled to see them..Driftwood is always so neat. I still have a two foot long one from Lake Superior up there in the UP. I can never part with it for some reason..I just like it. I've had it since 1975.

ReplyDeleteThose are great shots of the cardinal. (Did you see my blog about the cardinal attacking my trailer?) I just LOVE the driftwood photos, especially in b/w. What a rude awakening to return to snow! But the photo of the geese in the water with the snow in the background is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI really like your black-and-white photo of the driftwood. I'm glad you're seeing signs of Spring -- I saw the snow! I think I've developed an allergic reaction to that white stuff.

ReplyDeleteThe cardinals are so pretty. Love that red color. The black & white photos are stunning. It gives the gnarled wood such a crisp, timeless look. Really nice!
