More This and That from the U.P.

Today, I have a collection of photos
taken about a month ago.
(I know, I am STILL behind..but it was a busy Spring, people!)

As mentioned in a previous post,
we had rosebreasted grosbeaks come to visit us, but only for about three weeks.
We  haven't seen any since then.

I sure think they are pretty.
The red on this one's breast looks like a little heart, doesn't it?:

Remember last month, when I was
ESTATIC
to see a moose????

You guessed it!
Less than ONE WEEK later, we were driving down the highway and up ahead there were about 30 cars pulled over.
I told my hubby, "there is either an accident up ahead or someone has spotted a moose!"...
 Then I yelled..."PULL OVER< PULL OVER...for the LOVE OF GOD...PULL OVER!!"

(Lucky for him, he PULLED OVER!)

(He's a love that man! A LOVE!)
I was blessed...
it WAS a MOOSE!!:
I don't know how long he was out before we got there, and there was a crowd of people by now watching him...I just got myself out of the car with my camera
and he gave one glance, ran behind this bush
and then....

LEFT!:

(They don't call me "quick draw McGraw" on the camera trigger for nothing. ha)
But I was thrilled to have seen another Moose...and thrilled I got a few more pictures of one.
I have lived up here for years and years and never saw a Moose, and now I have seen three
in one year.
I am one happy woman!!

We went in the woods for pictures a few weeks ago.
As I was snapping away at the Marsh Marigolds in one spot, I looked up and
saw THIS:
The license plate was IMBEDDED into the tree!

I wondered how it got there???!!
I mean, a  LONGGGG time ago, was there a car wreck
and the rest of the car rusted away?

Isn't that strange???

Here it is in black and white, which I liked!:
I tried it in Sepia but I didn't like it as much as in black and white.

One of my beloved Trilliums:

Crabapple tree blossoms!:

You can smell the blossoms from far away!!! Scrumptous!!:

Of course,
all the blossoms are gone now...
but they were lovely to see!

Join me again soon for more pictures...
I took a ton within a few weeks
because there was so much Spring beauty around....

  3. I never realised that moose (what is the plural - mooses / moose?) were so rare. How interesting.

  4. Brian: Come and visit us, we will go moose photo hunting. ha

  5. That little heart is so obvious, now that you pointed it out. And I do wonder HOW that license plate got embedded into the tree! Weird!

  6. Well, a moose is one thing I am pretty sure we WON'T see in this area....though there are still a few deer roaming.

I do hope an accident didn't embed that license plate ( or anyone along with it ) in the tree...perhaps just someone with a great sense of humor!

Lovely photos but, then, yours always are!

At 65, I've done it! My poetry book - Life's Journey by Carmen Henesy - is out on Amazon!
( Poems about the things that have been important to me in my journey through life, some humorous, some sad, some that may have meaning to you as well )

  10. Hi Joan---Are you a happy woman???? I'd never know!!!!! ha ha ha.... Actually, I know just how you feel. I get happy when I see something new like that also...

That is an old license tag... Love the Sepia photo...

  11. Great photos Joan, oh I could almost smell the blossoms from the crab tree....we have many moose on the loose in Canada, they are quite common actually.....:-)Hugs

  12. I knew back before you saw a moose when you said how much you wanted to see one that after your first they would pop up everywhere. That's how it always seems to work. I'm hoping for an elephant sighting, myself. I love that picture with the license plate. Black and white or color are both good. It's those surprise strange ones that are the best.

  13. Brian: I had been waiting to see a moose up here for 5 years and now I have seen 3 in the last 4 months!

Rainfield: yes, some are more exciting to me than others too! I love my wildlife photos the best. ha

Alan: In some areas they are rare...here they are starting to breed and populate more after they "transplanted" some here from Canada.

DJan: Yes, I thought it was weird too! Aliens??? haha

    Eva: Thanks!

RNSane: you published a book??? How FANTASTIC! I would love to see it and read it..I will look into it for sure! Congratulations!

Diane: I am so glad you liked them.

Technobabe: That was my first! ha I thought it was so strange...no other parts of the car were found. ha

Ashley: Send him up here, we will go moose photo hunting with him!

Betsy: Thanks for reading me every time I post and leaving comments, I feel like we are old friends. ha

Bernie: I need to come up and explore your woods and take some Canada moose photos then!

Ratty: Yes, I did say that...and its working. ha Now I want to see a bull moose with large horns. Gheesh, I'm never satisfied, am I? ha

  14. Great shots.
Glad you got those of the moose..

On our Alaska trip, we saw a mama
and baby moose beside the road....
they seem to attract flies and also
have a pungent odor... but I did manage to get out of the car and get
a few shots before the mama decided to chase us away.

  15. Love the old license plate, I am sure there is a story behind that one, I wish you could find out what it was! Great photos..I would like to see a Moose too..we have a few way up north where there are lots of willows and few people. Wonderful photos as usual:)

  16. Love all of these but that first bird is my favorite!

  17. I've seen Moose Jaw, but never moose butt...actually have been to Moose Jaw. We've lived here almost 20 years and have yet to see a moose! All we see is where they have been (if you know what I mean) in our woods...that and hoof prints. Lovely photos.

  18. The license plate in the tree is really strange, maybe a tornado? Or someone with too much time on their hands?

I'm glad you got to see another moose, once you see one there will always be more. Of course when I lived in AK in the winter I would very open my backdoor and look around before stepping out in case there was a moose out there. Sometimes there was.

  19. What a fun entry. Also, I just entered your photo contest of flowers for June to try it out.

  20. That Trillium is spectacular! And yeah, that license plate in the tree is weird but interesting. Nice capture though.

  21. a tornado will do that - put a piece of straw right through a tree trunk so it could do that with a license plate. Beautiful flowers.

  22. A lot of great photos, but that first one with the heart shaped red breast on the bird was amazing..
Oh yeah, the license plat also!!!

  23. Faye: Oh! I would LOVE to see a baby moose and it's mama! Lucky you!

FarSide: You seem to have a zillion other wildflowers than us there...I have to pay more attention. ha

Bossy: I love the rose-breasted grosbeaks..they seem so gentle and beautiful.

Cathy: I was the same way up until last year..now we have seen them three times! Hang in there, you will see one.

SquirrelQueen: You were so lucky to see them so often! They are so ugly, they are beautiful. ha

Maria: Yay..I hope I got it. I don't recall getting one yet so..if you didn't get an email back from me, then contact me okay? And thanks so much for entering!

Mike: It sure was weird. My hubby thought someone stuck it into a young tree and then the tree "grew around" it as it grew. Who knows!? ha

Ann: We haven't had any strong tornados like that here, ever! ha

Pat: I loved that bird, too! Thanks!
