This is Part Two of a set of photographs from my hike on the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan of the U.P. of Michigan, along the desolate shores of Lake Superior.
Here is another awesome tree mushroom we saw along the hike:
And, the top shelf of the Montreal River waterfall, that pours into Lake Superior:
Boy, was I pooped!
But we rested and sat along the mouth of the river, just admiring its glory.
Then, after getting a second wind, we decided to hike up even farther to see the set of the upper falls of the river.
This is a shot of the river flowing along on our hike up to the second set of falls:
We had some steep hills to climb and I was wondering if it would be worth it.
But then, finally...
through the trees, we spotted the upper falls!:
Yes, ...I hear you telling me it WAS worth it.
And, you are right.
Here is another picture out in the open of this beautiful set of falls:
Gorgeous!
So, now, we had to hike back.
But, not to worry...because look at the view as we hiked back to our car!:
We made it back late in the afternoon.
Thirsty, hungry and happy.
We decided to all drive back to my brother's camp on Lake Medora, which was about 10 miles away. I just happened to have baked a homemade apple pie (ahead of time) for that exact moment....
Let's just say, an apple pie never tasted SO GOOD!!
It will be a memory we will all remember for a long while.
(Especially my muscles and back).
But, did I tell you yet that it was totally worth it???
Absolutely brilliant. Beautiful shots. Thank you for taking me on such a wonderful hike. Elcmae

What awesome photos Joan!! You are so lucky to be able to hike like that. Beautiful sunset for the end of the day too!!
ReplyDeleteLoved the pics. That mushroom (or what it is attached to) almost looks like a horse head upside down.
ReplyDeleteElcmae: you are welcome..have you joined on as a Follower yet? Would love that.
ReplyDeleteScappyDo: thanks! We were just gone for 2 days on another hike or two, so there will be more pictures to come.
Ginnymo: Yes, I know. I get sore, but I want to hike as long as I am able, because there are so many beautiful spots up here to see.
Grannyann: thanks...I know, I thought that mushroom was so intersting in shape, too.
Beautiful river photos...I thought the growth on the tree looked like a giant snail!
ReplyDeleteLook at that sunset! Wow!!!
ReplyDeleteI am tired but sure did enjoy both posts on this wonderful hike. I love the mushroom tree, too, and that sunset is just awesome. You sure did see some beautiful scenery. That pie sounds wonderful.

L.D.: Maybe I can do a calendar and sell them to our Chamber then...you have a good idea! ha
I hike like that would always be worth it. You got some beautiful photos, and you got to see the wonderful waterfalls. It must have been like the path to heaven.
ReplyDeleteRatty: A good way to describe it: a path to Heaven! I told my brother that when we were hiking..I said "Well, getting to heaven isn't supposed to be easy!"
ReplyDeleteLooks like your hike was well worth it. Amazing! You are right...it is heaven.
ReplyDeleteAshley: It was SO totally worth it...it was glorious, heavenly and all those other adjectives you would think of to describe heaven. ha
ReplyDeleteAnd, no bugs due to the time of year we walked it! Perfect!!
Great pictures, my father got a cottage in the Upper Peninsula around 1881 , I used to fish down by the Montreal below the power station , lots of rainbows and browns , even caught brook trout in there, pictures don't often do the real life experience justice, and yes , I was sore and my back ached climbing that hill back up too , but , it was worth it, we used to camp at Little Girl's Point since the mid sixties and I have always loved this part of the state
