More of Presque Isle...

A few weeks ago, I posted about a lovely peninsula jutting out into Lake Superior from the city of Marquette, Michigan where the forefathers were wise enough to preserve a park there.

We can't go the summer without visiting the beautiful site at least a few times and again in the autumn when the leaves change colors.

This week, we went out to Presque Isle and visited a little area called The Cove where there are alot of rock cliffs and islands to see.

Enjoy the tour!:

Here is the lighthouse and another ore boat approaching the area:

A close up of the ore boat coming into the ore docks:

Here are some of the rock cliffs at The Cove area:

You know me, I can't resist taking photos of crashing waves on the rocks!:

Some more of the rock formations left behind after the glaciers in the area formed Lake Superior shoreline:

This red Coast Guard Station is one of the most photographed and painted landmarks in Marquette:

I think this seagull had one of the best views of the lake. What about you?:

A view of the many islands you can see from Presque Isle, looking out at Lake Superior:

AHHH...more crashing waves!:

We went on another trip further down the coast of Lake Superior toward the town of Houghton, Michigan. I hope to post those pictures for you soon.

  2. OOOOO, I can recall how C-C-C-Cold the water was. Brrr.

Presque Eel? right? I'm a "mitten" person, so never was quite sure.

(I skipped that chapter in Geography.)

  3. Thanks for the tour. It is almost as good as being taken around and shown all the sites for real. Finding out about other peoples "back yards" is yet another delight of being part of the blogging community.

  4. Brian: We even climbed some ourselves...but more like the rocks there...not the cliffs. ha

Going: The water is refreshing, all right! No, we pronounce it like Aisle, not eel. Also, we tell all the out of towners it is Sow-na not Saw-na for a sauna. But either way, Presque Isle is beautiful. ha

  6. Some of these pictures look familiar. Didn't I see that one of the walkway before? Anyhow, they are fun to look at again! And the waves, the water, the wind, all are really picturesque.

  10. Alan: You are welcome. I love looking at each other's scenery too.

Wanda: Glad to relax ya. ha

DJan: the walkway is the same walkway to the lighthouse as before, but this was an entirely different ship and the other pictures of the Cove haven't been shown before. I suppose a lot of Lake Superior shoreline looks the same as others I have posted, too. I just love Lake Superior and all of the shoreline that goes with it.

Cathy: I think the news said Lake Superior is only 54 degrees. Our lake today was 76 according to our fish finder on our boat. So...yes LS is freezing cold! I never swim there.

Rainfield: yes, we did some climbing to get the shots. Glad you liked them!

Shelley: You must visit Presque Isle when you come up here, for sure!

  11. It is a beautiful area. Your photos are so good too. My wife and I sat on the shore up there back in 1989 and painted pictures. We need to come back up and do it again. If I can find the painting I will show it to you sometime. Great blog as always.

  15. L.D.: You are officially invited back up to paint some more pictures up here...our color season will be coming in about a month..those would make great scenes to paint on the lakeshore. If you decide to come up and do that, make SURE you email me...the four of us will have dinner. How great would that be? And, you could come and see our huge Lake Michigamme, too which is only about 50 minutes from Marquette!

Blushing: Thanks so much..I really love to take waves splashing,so I am glad the movement shows up well in the photos!

New England: I knew with your love of the water and large boats you would like to see Lake Superior too. I LOVE your water and boat pictures so much, too...maybe we should swap homes for a vacation. ha

Keats: You are welcome...I am glad someone, somewhere is teaching folks about the Great Lakes, because they are remarkable!

  20. Grannyann: Yes, it is a beautiful place.

Catherine: I should know how old it is, but I don't. It has been there for as long as I remember as a kid, but it wasn't red before when I was little.

Bernie: you are more than welcome. It is my pleasure to bring these photos to everyone.

Lizzie: I love being anywhere there is water, too.

Sue: If you do plan a trip up here, you HAVE to give me an email to let me know when so we can get together and meet and maybe have dinner! That would be fantastic.

  23. Sandi: So glad you liked them. There is so much beauty to shoot photos of on all of Lake Superior's shorelines!

Insanity: Oh, honey...come for a visit!!! I would love to show you around here. Just name the date and I will be waiting! (Hint for you though, if you don't like cold and snow, July and August are warmest. Sept. and Oct. are breathtaking for the changing leaves, but it gets quite a bit colder fast!)

  24. I love all your photos, favorites are the crashing waves on the rocks! I want the view that little seagull has, I think you might be right about it being the best view.

    Great photos.

  25. I nearly missed this one, that would be a shame! The scenery is breathtaking! So beautiful, I love it all, crashing waves, seagulls, rocks ... but especially the lighthouse! I don't know why but I LOVE lighthouses. Almost as much as windmills. There is something about them ...

  26. SquirrelQueen: Thanks. Yes, I am always taking photos of the crashing waves or any kind of water movement. I find it hypnotizing.

Jientje: Don't be missing any of my blogposts, now! Always check that I didn't do more than the top one. ha
I love lighthouses too. I would LOVE to see windmills...no old ones here, only some new wind turbines, which aren't pretty. ha
