We have some grackles that stop by the feeder now and then.
And, some chipping sparrows.
And, an occasional hummingbirds at dusk.
And, a few robins.
But we hear the melodious sounds of the little house wrens every morning and night.
While sitting on our front porch swing the other night, the house wrens were singing so close we knew they were right in our apple trees next to our porch.
Sure enough, pretty soon we saw them hopping from tree to tree, chirping constantly and LOUDLY like they were excited about something.
Then we saw one checking out our bird house, maybe for occupancy:
He was looking in the bird house, checking it over:
I don't know..he was saying. It looks a little old and dingy inside!:
Excuse my behind, but I gotta get a better look before I decide to rent this place!:
Nope, I don't want this condo...I am OUTTA here!:
Maybe if I sit on the branch and advertise that I am looking for an apartment here in this neighborhood, someone will hear me?:
I will just start bringing in my furniture RIGHT NOW, I am so excited!!:
Adorable post! Your shots are absolutely wonderful. I should take our camera out with us as each meal ...
ReplyDeleteYou write so beautifully, capturing each pics, & the reader.
TY for such enjoyable moments spent with you. TTFN ~ Marydon
How nice! It's so relaxing just watching the birds. You got some great shots.
ReplyDeleteLove that birdhouse and obviously your new friend does too! CUTE! Now it's a countdown to seeing the babies!
ReplyDeleteI love how you could read their thoughts...isn't it funny how they can maneuver long sticks into that tiny hole.
ReplyDeleteWe have our very first wrens!! After 17 years, we have a pair of wrens!! I haven't posted the photos that I took yet; been busy with other stuff I guess. But they've been nesting for about 3 weeks now. Dan thinks they have also built another nest about 500' from the first one. They sure sing up a storm!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you shared these photos and your story. I wasn't sure if wrens in our area were common or uncommon.
Too cute! You must've been sitting there for hours!
ReplyDeleteADORABLE!!!
ReplyDeleteThose first couple look like he was singing..."You put your right foot in, you take your right foot out, you put your right foot in, and you shake it all about....." ♥
Blushing: What sweet things to say. I enjoy taking the photos so much, it is my pleasure!
ReplyDeleteSue: It was a treat to watch them up close by the porch...very entertaining. They are STILL hauling in branches today yet...now they are filling up BOTH of the birdhouses I showed in this post! The same birds...maybe they are getting a divorce? ha
Shellmo: I sure hope I can capture the babies...last time I was not quick enough to catch the baby robins, and the Flicker nest was so high, I couldn't capture the babies flying out of that one either!!
Wanda: It sure is! We were giggling today watching them haul big sticks in...I felt sorry for them..it would get one 1/2 way in the hole and it would drop on the ground and he would fly down, pick it up, only to have it happen again! But eventually, he did get it in and folded around inside so that nothing was sticking out of the hole. Amazing!
Cathy: This is the third year they have been here...they weren't here the first year we built our house...but it is so funny..they come in our front yard always...in the apple trees birdhouses...never in our back yard by the lake in any of those trees. Don't you LOVE their songs? They are one of the most melodious birds I have ever heard sing.
JJ: Believe it or not, those pictures were all taken within 15 minutes...they are busy little bees!
Boomer: That's pretty much what it looked like, too! ha
Such a lovely blog! Wonderful pics!
ReplyDeleteprecious! precious!!!

ReplyDeleteMouthy: I am so glad you liked the post. Those little birds are pretty cute and they sing so lovely!
The photos, the pictures, the stories.....I loved them all. Joan I can't tell you enough how much I love your blog. It is such a treat to pop in for a visit, you have such a variety and I never know what to expect, except I know it will be entertaining and wonderful.
ReplyDelete.......:-) Hugs
What a cute post! Those wrens have the best song! I think he picked a great condo, who doesn't want frog decorations? :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute froggy birdhouse. Hope you'll get to see the little babies soon.
ReplyDeleteSweet funny fun post! That is prime real estate Mr. Wren selected, a darling birdy house with great curb appeal. Two days ago our very own Mom and Pop Wren got their kids airborne-we miss all six of those little feathery baby bird bodies!
ReplyDeleteWhat a busy cute littlr bird.
ReplyDeleteSweet post and love the 'denim' birdhouse!
ReplyDeleteBernie: I am so glad you liked it! I enjoy blogging and putting different things up for a post, so I am glad you are liking it!
ReplyDeleteGardener: The funny thing is that it was just a decorative ceramic hanger that my husband found at an estate sale and he hung it by our sidewalk because it was so cute...and lo and behold, they liked it for a real birdhouse! I read somewhere that house wrens will put a nest just about anywhere and that a lady left a robe hanging on a clothesline with big pockets and came back to see the birds had started a nest in one of the pockets!
Loree: We hope they get babies and that we get to see them soon too!
Rural: yes, I have missed the babies in two nests so far this year...it seems they decide in the morning that they are going to fly the next and boom, they are gone! Or, the nest is so high, I can't get a picture down at the babies when they are in the nests.
Rainfield: Yes, they are very busy when they build a nest, going in and out several times within a few minutes.
Gaston: I love the little ceramic hanger too...it was not really supposed to be a real birdhouse, it was more of a decorative piece that my husband hung just because it was cute...and then here came the house wrens and they actually used it!
Awww how cute! I love it and glad little birdie found the perfect home!
ReplyDeleteBrittany: They are adorable little birds. We are still watching them to see if they start laying on eggs in there. I want babies! :-}
ReplyDeleteI loved your story and I love the bird house. I hope some move into my three new houses.
ReplyDeleteMy wife was telling me that she had read an article about the wrens. She said the male actually comes early and makes at least three nests and when the female comes to the location she will check them all out before she picks one. I really like your birdhouses.
ReplyDeleteThat second birdhouse is one of the coolest I've ever seen. I can imagine that bird bragging to all it's little friends about it.
ReplyDeleteGrannyann: they sure sing! We had one that started singing at 4:30 this morning. But they sound so pretty, you can't get mad at them. ha
ReplyDeleteL.D.: How interesting!!! We see them filling up TWO of ours, so I don't know where they are sprucing up the third one. Sure hope she picks our little frog birdhouse so I can get some cute pictures of the babies in there!! :-}
Ratty: You know, that really is just a ceramic decoration that we hung to look cute in the apple trees. We never dreamed that any birds would actually use it as a birdhouse!!
Isn't that the sweetest thing! I just took pictures the other day of baby wrens being fed. The next day they were gone. It's like the blink of an eye! Love Wrens!
ReplyDeleteSharon
New England Life: did you publish your picture of the baby wrens being fed? Did I miss it? I would love to see it, so let me know! I bet your photo of it was phenomenal!
ReplyDeleteHow cute is this.....
ReplyDeleteHe does indeed seem to be scoping out the best place, and seems pleased with his decision.
Just wonderful pictures !
Brit: He is adorable. He is STILL out going between two houses...so I don't think they are sitting on any eggs yet.
