More Autumn This and That...

Here are some more photographs of autumn in the U.P. of Michigan for you!

This is a little lake called Alberta Lake:

Where the trees were in full color:

It has a hill on the end which makes for some great Autumn reflections!:

I liked this fallen tree that was full of character:

Another shot of Alberta lake, shining with color:

This sign was at Tahquamenon Falls during our walk there a few weeks ago.
I loved the poem on it:

This was a bee's nest we saw in the woods there too.
I used my zoom so I didn't disturb the bees!:

There is a little park to picnic at Alberta Lake, too:

Who doesn't like moss on a tree?:

This is a tiny set of falls outside of Munising, Michigan right on the side of the highway.
In fact, I just rolled down my window and got this photo:

I hope you get to get outside this week and continue to enjoy this glorious season!

Oh how I loved the "Prayer of the Woods!" May I quote it in a blog? Your pictures are just breathtaking!

Joan, your colors are fantastic up there in the UP. And the bee's nest actually looks a little like a halloween mask. Thanks for the great shots!

I live in Alberta and it's nice to know there is a lake of beauty out there with our name on it, don't think we would ever find one of such majestic color here...Have a great day my friend.....:-) Hugs

How beautiful. And you're right-we are running out of autumn quickly.
Even though we've had a rather gloomy fall down here in northern lower peninsula, I've been outside as much as possible. Did you make it to Brockway Mtn this fall for the colors?

Brian: I loved that poem too.

Joycee: Sure, quote it in your blog, then remind me to read it when you post it, ok? So glad you liked it!

DJan: It DOES look like a mask, doesn't it? I sure don't want to see what is hiding beneath the mask though. ha

Bernie: I am so surprised that you don't have as much color in Alberta. Is it because you have mostly pine trees there?

Sue: We went up to Copper Harbor, did some hiking and went to Medora Lake (which is right below Brockway Mt.) but we didn't go up on the mountain there this year. We did go up Marquette Mountain though and I will be posting some of those soon.

Fabulous shots! I do love this time of year.

We will be busy indoors, volunteering at our Cranberry Festival.
It is our part.

Those are breathtaking beauties! And I thought you have found skull in the forest.

Love the reflections on the water. Beautiful.

Ohhh I love fall! Wish the rain would stop here so we could enjoy the beginning of it all! Of course we need to get well first...

That bee nest is awesome! I can see the head of one sticking out!

Beautiful nature, beautiful photographs. You have talent.

I love moss covered trees Joan...I also love the second photo...with the contrast of the white bark and the 3rd photo ith the dark pine trees yp front along the edge of the lake...Just beautiful Joan!

Your colors are absolutely gorgeous. The reflections on the lake give double the pleasure. All of the photos are fantastic, this is what fall should look like. It's still really green here, makes it hard to get in the mood.

The bee's nest looks more like hornets, glad you used the telephoto cause those guys are mean.

I just popped back in to show a friend your beautiful photo's and yes our color is limited because of so many pine trees....Now the Maritimes "where I come from" (LOL) has the same gorgeous colors as the New England States...These were even more beautiful this second look....Luv ya...:-) Hugs

OMG that is beautiful!

Awesome colors . Your sequence keeps one looking for what comes next. Our Albeerta yellow didn't make it this year as a frost hit before they turned. So I will enjoy your fall colors all the more . Thanks.

This and your previous post are just gorgeous. You could frame these prints!!!
I love that poem too, it makes you thing about trees in a whole new way.

Wonderful photos. I have a place that looks very similar to the place where you show that first fallen log.

What a beautiful place. I'm glad you didn't get too close to the nest -- Bald-Faced Hornets are very aggressive in defending their hive.

Grannyann: Thanks so much. It was very pretty at that spot.

Joanna: Thanks..it is a real show stopper in person, too. There was another woman there taking photos on the same day we were there too.

Jenn: Cranberry Festival sounds neat...you should take some photos of the growing of cranberries, I don't know much about them.

Rainfield: A skull in the forest would be interesting, sometimes hunters DO find deer skulls in the forest. So if I see any, I will take some photos of it, just for you!

Eva: Thanks. I loved all your travel photos, they were awesome!

Insanity: I have been hearing about rain all over the country...and some folks in the east got a ton of snow...and usually that is US!

Elizabeth: Thanks, wow...what a compliment! Are you new to my blog? If so, welcome!! I didn't check yet to see if you signed on as a Follower. If you didn't, I hope you do!

Wanda: Glad you liked the collection and enjoyed it. I always take so many pictures when we are out there because I find so many things that are pretty.

SquirrelQueen: I know, Judy, I got stung on my finger a few weeks ago and it HURT!

Bernie: How nice of you to bring a friend to look at my blog. I hope (s)he enjoyed it!

Brittany: We got a really hard frost two days ago and it killed the intense color we had in these pictures. (dang) We still have color but it looks a bit faded now. I knew it wouldn't last as long as I wanted it to!

Red: You are new to my blog! Welcome..did you join on as a Follower? (hope so!) I know what you mean about the frost. We just got a really hard frost two days ago and it really affected the intensity of the colors and made many of them fall off the trees like rain.

Catherine: I loved that poem, too. We have a lot of logging going on here and I know it is an industry we need for our economics, but it makes me sad. I know that sounds hypocritical from someone that lives in a log home...but they do "clean cutting" a lot instead of select logging where they just take the larger logs..that is what makes it look like the forest was raped.

Ratty: Then your spot must be awesome too. I could hike in that stuff forever and just inhale nature.

Sweet Bay: I didn't get stung there, but I did get stung BAD a few weeks ago just once on my right hand and WOW did it hurt!

Oh I really like "The Prayer of the Woods" well said..who ever said it! You have beautiful photos again today..we have rain and dark clouds today:(

The Retired One said...

Far Side: I loved that poem, too. Glad you liked the photos. Frost has hit hard here so I am afraid I won't get many more of the brilliant color in the woods now.

I live within walking distance of Alger Falls! The U.P. in Autumn is proof God exists! Beautiful photos!

Alberta Lake is right on the present route of the North Country Trail- a roadwalk past there for now. Very pretty in the fall. They were doing construction on the road bridge when I walked through and it was all muddy with the water lowered. Glad it's pretty again.

Hey, is your name Joan, too?

ashley folkema said...

I love the prayer of the woods. So perfect. I cannot believe what a calm day you had. I do not even see ripples on the water. Love the fallen tree shot!

The Retired One said...

Sharkbytes: I remember when the water was lowered a while back. It is back to being gorgeous now, not to worry! And yes, my name is Joan. :-}

Ashley: Yes, we were blessed with a few of those still days this fall so the reflections on the water were that much more beautiful. I love fallen trees and tree mushrooms and tree roots, as you probably have noticed already in all of my photography. :-}
